This is a lineup you're not gonna see everyday lol. I like it though, I just get the feeling that whoever we trot out there is going to step up for us.

Oh and has there been any word on Valdez? Really bad time for him to get hurt yesterday...

Ryan Ludwick has 10 RBI this series and he sits? I hope Cueto throws up zero's because the Pads would be looking at picking up a 4 game sweep without Luddy's hot bat.

Moonlite Graham

Were 22 games over and 3 games ahead so really shouldnt be complaining I guess but I will never understand Dusty's obesssion with penalizing excellence all for the sake of his little league mentality for everybody to play.

Why take Ludwicks bat out of the lineup right now for no good reason.

Earlier this year he benched Frazier after a big offensive game cause he thought it was critical to "Get Willie Harris Hot" (really???)

Last year when Heisey hit 3 HR against the Yankees, didnt start the next day.

Maddening.

I mean Im all for giving Paul a start, hes done well so far, but Bruce would seem to have been the logical candidate to sit today.

Stray
08-02-2012, 11:51 AM
Eh Ludwick is 1-8 with 4Ks against the Pads starter today. The last thing you want to do is cool his bat down before the Pirates series.

Stray
08-02-2012, 11:52 AM
Not a huge sample size I know, but we have him rolling into this weekend series red hot. Not gonna complain about that.

HometownHero
08-02-2012, 11:53 AM
I hate sitting our hottest hitter with our best pitcher going on top of not having our two best hitters. Ludwicks last 55 games .301/.361/.651/1.012 while the team is 17 games over .500!

Did not know that...thanks for the stat. I can see now where the reasoning comes from, though its a pretty small sample size and as hot as he is dont think the mighty Ross Ohlendorf would slow him down.

I'm interested to see what Paul does in the lead-off spot. He had three hits in his only other start but that was in the 6th spot.

Ohlendorf is pretty terrible, so the Reds should still be able to score even without Ludwick in the lineup. I'm excited for Paul. He's got a lot of potential and I hope he shows it today.

Well, however you want to look at it. The point is that our starters have been ineffective this series. Unless Cueto turns it around, it's looking unlikely that we'll get out of the four-game series with a single quality start (and that's not a terribly high standard anyway, especially against this team).

I think people look at the Padres record and think bad team. I think they are a good offensive team playing half their games in a pitchers park and having pretty poor pitching. I think if the Padres played in a park like GABP more often they would have a better overall record and a pretty strong hitting team.

Nope. Bases are considered fair territory. They are not an island of safety.

In baseball protocol, is the responsibility of the runner to avoid the fielder as well as the ball when running the bases. Even if the ball is hit right at him, the runner has to get out of the way. Rule 7.08 (b) of the Official Rules of Baseball states that when a runner is hit by a fair batted ball and any fielder has a reasonable opportunity to make a play, the runner is declared out for interfering, whether intentional or not. The bases are in fair territory, so this rule includes if the runner is standing on a base and is hit by a fair batted ball. Rule 5.09 (e) adds that if a foul ball hits the runner at first -- that is, the player is standing on first, but the ball hits part of his body in foul territory -- the ball becomes dead and the runner is safe.

As good as Chapman has been and I am sure he could go to the rotation next year, I like him better as a closer.

As a closer, he can seal wins for us 3 maybe 4 games in a row, as a rotation pitcher, he would only pitch for us every 5 games and a guy in the bullpen could blow the win.

I like what we have now: a SP take the game into the 6th or 7th and let the Nasty boys take over in the 7th, 8th, and 9th for the win.

Cheesehead here. When the Packers won the championship 2 years ago, obviously a lot of it had too do with playmakers like ARod and Woodson having big years.
