Hard to believe this team has the best record in MLB when you see those boxscore batting averages.

Ironman92
08-05-2012, 04:30 PM
Would it kill a Red to take a few pitches today? Burnett is just throwing everything under the shins and guys are getting themselves out.

My biggest fear for this team when it matters in the playoffs.

The Reds have seen 13 pitches total in the 6th and 7th innings combined.

You would think they have a plane to catch. Oh, wait, they do!
Have not enjoyed their approach today. Had a chance to throw a haymaker at the Pirates, but instead, seems like they mailed this one in.
On the other hand, hard to complain a lot the way this team has played of late.
Keep winning series guys.

The bad part is that with today's lineup, that was kind of the meaty part of our order. Cairo's been in the big leagues for long enough you'd think he would at least take a strike in that situation.

I sense Jocketty doesn't want to disrupt team chemistry by making more moves, but there are real weaknesses on this team that could spell a quick exit in the post-season.

They've been playing out of their minds lately. Some of that has been luck, some just poor competition that won't be around for the playoffs.

Haha. That was bad. Not nearly as bad as the Tim Welke call during the Dogers-Rockies game but pretty awful.

Stubbs has a good 61 runs scored in 88 games....but has only earned his way on base 111 times....in 3 fewer games Mike Trout has earned his way on base 55 more times and has scored 25 more runs...again in 3 fewer games...but Stubbs scores about 55% of the time he earns his way on and Trout at 53.4%.....with more HR, Doubles, Triples and SB than Stubbs, so Stubbs definitely finds his way to home at an incredible %.....but not sure how because Trout starts off further around the bases by a good bit and steals more and at a higher %.

What Stubbs is doing in runs scored is impressive.....but the next time someone tries to convince me he's unlucky.....

RedsFanInBama
08-05-2012, 04:38 PM
So now we're holding Stubbs up against Trout? That's a sure-fire way to make almost any player look lousy.

If I'm Burnett, I just keep throwing strikes and worry about hitting someone down the road. We have plenty more games with them this year, and there's no reason to disrupt the rhythm he is in.

this has been great. but only being able to muster up 3 hits against good pitching worries me about the playoffs. having votto and phillips back is obviously a huge difference, but the rest of this lineup looked awful today. in the playoffs you've got two or three aj burnett level pitchers in succession. i think joe morgan made a good point on tv the other day saying that the reds really only have 3-4 guys that can hit good pitching; the rest, not so much.

The Reds run prevention has really slipped over the last 10 days. The defense is a step slower and outside Latos, the starters look gassed.

Way to many cheap singles that didn't exist in mid-July.

Negative: Reds have gone a long time without facing a decent right hander. They did today (albeit one who doesn't perform very well in the big media spotlight) and we saw what happened.

Lets hope the failure to pull the trigger on Victorino for Ondrusek doesn't come back to really cost this team.
