Which Red gets drilled today? Which inning?

I will go with Bruce in the first.

Dusty on the postgame last night said Phillips did not play because they would have had to pinch run for him in a tight spot and he did not have mobility. Retroactive DL him? Cairo and Valdez can handle the spot and will not kill the team.

Not really concerned yet. Between us winning without him and the Pirates being out for blood, I think it just makes it easier for Dusty to continue to give him rest. Otherwise I get the feeling he could have played yesterday.

RedsFanInBama

It's bizarre to me that Phillips was a late scratch yesterday and then he wasn't even capable of pinch-hitting. Did something happen yesterday in BP or warmups I wonder?

Stray
08-05-2012, 11:23 AM
There was a tweet last night from a Pirates beat writer. He said AJ Burnett was in the dugout pointing out all of the Reds he planned on drilling tonight. Something like this guy, then that guy, then that guy...

Yeah....it's early August with about 55 games remaining.....if he took 30 seconds to circle the bases 4 days ago and needs a pinch runner still.....I don't want to see him in a game for a week. Don't mostly heal....heal. We don't want Phillips at 75% for the rest of the year....let's sit him a bit and have him 95-100% from Sept and on.

Homer should plunk their lead off guy with a curve ball. Cause both benches to get warned again and save our hitters from getting hit.

Winning the first two games of this important series makes it easier to give Phillips another day to heal before a road trip.

I think that's all it is.

No matter what happens today, the Reds leave this series with a bigger lead over Pittsburgh than when the series started.

Joesh
08-05-2012, 12:53 PM
So are benches gonna get warned before the game starts today? If not, Bailey should bean McCutchen in the top of 1st to draw the warning again and put Pirates on life tilt

There was a tweet last night from a Pirates beat writer. He said AJ Burnett was in the dugout pointing out all of the Reds he planned on drilling tonight. Something like this guy, then that guy, then that guy...

If he hits more than one he'll be out of the game most likely.

RedsFanInBama
08-05-2012, 01:01 PM
Homer just needs to get outs, don't worry about hitting someone. Hopefully if Burnett hits someone, they'll just put their head down and take their base. I don't even want a warning that would prevent Homer from being able to pitch inside, but I have to believe one will come if someone gets hit, especially if it happens early in the game.

Ironman92
08-05-2012, 01:09 PM

Hypothetical, do both teams turn in there lineups at same time? What happens if Pirates send in their lineup and their starting pitcher is like a relief pitcher with the sole intent of throwing at Reds players until he gets ejected, what does Dusty do?

I wasn't referring to no scoring. I was referring to the nature of the at-bats and the amount of pressure put on Burnett. Two-pitch groundout by Cairo, three-pitch looking strikeout by Valdez, and a one-pitch groundout by Hanigan. Six pitches, three outs, and not one good swing.

Actually, if you want to do a quick search you will find you have posted this "observation" on more than one occasion in prior game threads.

I do not care how "deep" you want to look at it... The 6-8 hitters getting out against one of the hottest pitchers in baseball does not qualify as "horrible"... Or even notable... But then again, We have already seen "one of the worst at bats we will ever see in major league baseball" this game.

I was told from the get GO I was the best. did't mean to mention the part about being in trailers and stuff but dad just told me he did't raise a loser and I wasnt going to be like everybody else.

Can't expect to score much without Votto and Phillips in the lineup. Especially against a guy who has been as solid as Burnett this year. I was just hoping we'd be able to get his pitch count up and maybe get him out of the game after 6 or 7, but that obviously isn't going to happen.

It means he has made his way to base without an out or error 111 times in 366 plate appearances which comes out to an awful .303 on base %.....his 61 runs scored inside those numbers is very very good and his 61 runs hitting 2nd playing at home in GABP and totally 88 games is still above average.
