Pedro Villareal (4.01) is on the hill for Louisville tonight. He has given up a triple and a walk to the first two hitters he has faced in the top of the first.

Pensacola hosts Chattanooga and Sharky Rogers (1.80) will be making just his second AA start. First pitch in about 45 minutes.

texasdave
08-08-2012, 07:14 PM
Dayton is at Lansing and they are just about underway. Staling Gerson (3.95) takes the ball for the Dragons.

texasdave
08-08-2012, 07:17 PM
The Blaze will send Tim Crabbe (3.91) to the mound to face off against the Visalia Onions. Crabbe has pitched well for Bakersfield. His control has improved quite a bit. In four previous starts he has walked just seven batters while striking out 22 in 23 innings of work.

texasdave
08-08-2012, 07:19 PM
Billings will hand the ball to Drew Cisco (4.08) tonight. Cisco has walked just two Pioneer League hitters so far this season. He will be making his tenth start tonight. Pretty impressive.

Double posts seem to be having a field day today.

Villareal had to record five outs in the inning as errors by Neftali Soto and Chris Valaika help Toledo plate a pair in the first.

Sharky appears to be on: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K.

But so is the guy for Chattanooga. The Wahoos are hitless and the game is scoreless.

Villareal with a mediocre performance tonight, lasting only four and a third. He gave up eight hits, four runs (three earned) and struck out three. Josh Judy has come on for an inning and two-thirds and given up a run. Bats trail 5-2. Felix Perez singled, stole second and rode home on Brian Peacock's two-run dinger. Neftali Soto has a single. And that is the sum total of Bats' offense through five.

texasdave
08-08-2012, 09:12 PM
Billy Hamilton single-handedly manufactures a run as the Wahoos take a 1 zip lead after four. He singled. Then proceeded to steal both second and third before coming home on a wild throw by the Nooga catcher.

texasdave

You can up that to 3 runs in an inning and two-thirds off of Judy. I'm not joshin'. 7-2 Mud Hens.

texasdave
08-08-2012, 09:25 PM
Blue Fish offense extremely efficient tonight. Two hits and two runs. David Vidal doubled and one out later Mark Fleury got him home. The Sharkmeister in total control. 5IP 2H 1bb 4k. Pensacola up 2-0.

Middle of the 8th and it is all tied up in Lansing at 2 apiece. Gerson pitched 6 strong innings, allowing just 2 runs (1 earned) on four hits. He walked one and struck out seven. Four solid starts in a row for Gerson.

texasdave
08-08-2012, 09:50 PM
Bats fighting back with single tallies in the sixth and seventh. Felix Perez left the yard. Peacock, Soto and Perez with two hits each now. HRod with one. Kanekoa Texeira works a scoreless frame. 7-4. Mud Birds.

texasdave
08-08-2012, 09:52 PM
Pensacola stretching it out, tacking on two more in the sixth. They now have scored four runs on four hits. Sharky not only dealing from the mound but has stroked a triple. Billy Hamilton with another hit, another stolen base and another run scored. 14 away from the record now.

texasdave
08-08-2012, 09:59 PM
Looks like Dayton is playing a little free baseball tonight. Dan Jensen worked three innings in relief of Stalin Gerson. He gave up five hits and struck out nobody. But he kept them from scoring. Tied at two after nine.

texasdave
08-08-2012, 10:00 PM
Jeff Gelalich singles and scores on Beau Amaral's second hit of the night. Cisco pitches a scoreless second, striking out two more. Billings leads 1-0 after two.

texasdave
08-08-2012, 10:40 PM

Sharky Rogers and Drew Hayes combine on a three-hit blanking of Chattanooga. Pensacola wins 5-0.

Sharky has made a very nice transition into Double-A. He seemed to be fading a bit in Bakersfield, so it's good to see him respond. It's been quite a breakthrough season for him.

Doug is spending a few days in Pensacola, so it will be interesting to see his scouting report on Rogers.

Felix Perez stayed hot (single, home run, stolen base) and has walked 5 times in his past 10 games, which is very encouraging. Brian Peacock hit his first AAA home run. Neftali Soto had a couple singles as well as an error. Danny Dorn homered against his former team. He was also thrown out at third base from the outfield by Cody Puckett. Travis Webb didn't allow a run for the 6th time in his last 7 appearances.

Billy Hamilton had 3 stolen bases and is only 14 away from tying the record for most stolen bases in a season. In addition to a dominant pitching performance, Chad Rogers got his first professional hit (triple). The bullpen pitched 3 innings of scoreless relief. David Vidal doubled, and I would dare say he's scorching hot.

Billy did have an ice pack on his throwing hand leaving tonight. Said he dinged it up sliding into third.

Practically inevitable for a guy who runs that much. He's got to be careful.

Yep.

I am enjoying his run for the record, but I hope the Reds take away his green light after he passes Coleman. There is no reason for him to be putting his body through this much wear and tear in the minor leagues. The Reds should save him from himself and force him to be more selective until he reaches the majors, then turn him loose.

On that steal of 3rd last night for Billy, it resulted in what is the worst throw I have ever seen on the pro level by an actual player. The catcher attempted to throw it down to third, but I imagine he realized it was to late and tried to hold onto the ball. Well, that didn't work and he basically "floater pitched" the ball into left field. At its peak, the throw was probably 20-25 feet in the air. It was actually really funny.

Sharky Rogers and Drew Hayes combine on a three-hit blanking of Chattanooga. Pensacola wins 5-0. Nice to see something good about my boy Drew. He is from my area, and played Kitty League ball, for the local team. I know he was the closer for Dayton last year, and learned that some here said his projections wasn't as closer, and he hasn't been used as such, since way early in the season. Where do most put his ceiling?..I feel he can be a productive pitcher, like a Lecure.....am I that far off?

He throws 91-4 with a changeup and slider. I'm a big fan of his slider, but he often lacks command. He could be a solid middle reliever--maybe even a setup guy--but he needs to work on making his delivery more consistent.

Would be nice to see him put things together, and move up, and possibly, be a contributor. I'm pulling for him. Do most feel he'll be in AAA next season? I should hope so, considering his age, and college experience.

There's a pretty good chance seeing as how only 3 members of the Bats' pitching staff aren't due to be free agents (Christiani, Hoover, Villarreal). However, Hayes won't be eligible for the rule 5 draft this year, so there's no need to rush him.

edit:
To clarify, Jordan Smith won't be a free agent, but he'll be out of options. I expect him to be DFAed and spend the year in Louisville like Carlos Fisher is doing this year.
