You should have said "wow" instead of "insane." It would have been funnier.

Statistical Anomaly or an enlarged strike zone?

Tampa had a perfect game thrown against them for the 3rd time since 2009.

Enlarged strike zones? One of the biggest things that sticks out to me when I watch old game footage is at how small the strike zones have shrunk compared to years past. Just a personal observation.

Weren't there 3 last year or the year before? This is getting weird.

The guy was crazy good near the end. Crazy good. You could see the look in his eyes that he not only wanted it, he not only needed it, but he was going to get it. He was Chapman dominant.

I saw the last three innings. Unless its happening against the Reds, I never get tired of seeing end of no hitters and perfect games. Hernandez was completely dominant. He mainly went with his breaking ball and the Rays couldn't touch it.
When I turned it on Joe Madon had just got thrown out of the game. The Mariner broadcasters felt like he was trying to throw off Hernandez rythim. Sorry, that didn't work. The game was only 1-0. I kept wondering what would happen if the Rays tried to bunt at the end?

How often do the Rays get blanked? Geeze.

I think bunting for a hit in a 1-0 no-hit or perfect game is fair game. The name of the game is to win not to participate in a no-hitter or a perfect game. Guy bunts his way on, that's the tying run and the go-ahead run's at the plate. However, if a guy is throwing a no-hitter or perfect game and the score is 6-0 or something like that, it's bush to bunt for a hit.

I agree with you BTW. I kept thinking if the Rays want to have a shot at winning they should try a bunt. That may have thrown off his game more than a manager coming out to throw a temper tantrum.

The Rays are exactly the type of team that should be a perfect opponent for a perfect game pitcher. The team’s batting average accounts for a low percentage of their offense. They are a poor hitting team that takes pitches and tries to walk. That means if a pitcher can command the strike zone like Felix Hernandez did today, you can reduce the Rays OBP to close to their batting average. That’s .235 this season. A hacking offense, with a higher BA but a lower OBP should get no-hit less often.

Aug 16, 2012 - Now I've seen it all.

Fourteen years ago, I saw a no-hitter.

Yesterday, I saw a perfect game.

Well, almost all. As thrilled as I was on both occasions, one thrill yet eludes me. You see, neither of those historic gems were pitched by one of my guys. As thrilling as Félix Hernández's perfect game was for me, how thrilling must it have been for Mariners fans, who have seen practically every start of his career and lived and died with the franchise for who knows how many years?

I don't know. I know what it's like to see my favorite team win a World Series, but I don't know what it's like to see one of my favorite pitchers throw a no-hitter or a perfect game. I imagine that it must be something.
