Going for three out of four against Reds nemesis Cole Hamels...

Cozart 6
Stubbs 8
Bruce 9
Ludwick 7

Valdez 4
Hanigan 2
Cueto 1

You kids have fun tonight. I'll be in my usual seat in PBS. Go Reds and Who Dey!!!!!!

This is a good time to give Phillips a day off.

texasdave
08-23-2012, 03:34 PM
Wow. Stubbs in the lineup again. I guess three strike outs a game is the mark of a quality bat. LOL. I am kinda shocked that Valdez isn't in the 3-spot. Isn't that how it works?

texasdave
08-23-2012, 03:40 PM
Hanigan is swinging a hot stick. I would move him up behind Frazier.

texasdave
08-23-2012, 03:41 PM
I hope they get to Hamels this time out. He usually pitches tough against the Reds.

texasdave
08-23-2012, 03:44 PM
Hamels' nickname is "Hollywood". He is OPSing .559. Not bad for a pitcher.

texasdave
08-23-2012, 03:50 PM
This is a good time to give Phillips a day off.

Phillips hasn't hit Hamels well (33PA - .463 OPS), so yes it is. Of course, a ton of folks haven't hit Hamels well.

Ryan Ludwick does. (21PA - .992 OPS)
Migues Cairo does in limited action. (6PA - 1.200 OPS)
Jay Bruce does. (20PA - .800 OPS)

Everyone else struggles.

texasdave
08-23-2012, 03:56 PM
Once again Johnny Cueto gets a quality lineup behind him. He's shown he is up to the challenge.

malcontent
08-23-2012, 04:16 PM
Too bad Navarro apparently can't play 1B.

Or Ludwick or Heisey, for that matter.

Cairo really shouldn't be within sniffing distance of 1B.

HometownHero
08-23-2012, 04:25 PM
Hope we win with Cueto going, Would hate to lose with him and lose a game to the Cardinals and then not have him to use vs St Louis. This is basically the Cardinals last stand for the Division and a we can't afford a 4 game skid here.

MrRedLegger
08-23-2012, 04:43 PM
This lineup is not ideal but given that we're up 8 games in the division (St. Louis has now passed Pittsburgh) and can at worst split this series, I see what Dusty is doing. There was an article posted back a few days about how Dusty seems to have a sense of getting players rest at the right time and keeping everyone fresh, especially while the season is ending. Pretty sure he also has one of the best September records in baseball as a manager. I like our situation.

And considering who is on the mound for both teams, it smells like a low-scoring, one-run decision tonight.

Go Reds!

I'm having a feeling one of these pitchers is due for a bad outting. I sure hope it's Hamels! Cairo and Valdez in the same lineup, not good.

BluegrassRedleg
08-23-2012, 07:28 PM
at least we made him throw a lot of pitches

Key is the 2nd and 3rd innings now. Reds have a tendency to do that, then let the guy off the hook with a 10-pitch inning immediately afterward.

Australian Red

Cueto through the first in 11 pitches

The DARK
08-23-2012, 07:36 PM
Cueto cruises through the first three. Say what you want about strikeouts being superior to groundouts, but with the infield defense that we have, it gets the job done.

MrRedLegger
08-23-2012, 07:37 PM
and with the infield as wet as it is, it'll dampen ground balls. I'll take grounders all night

BluegrassRedleg
08-23-2012, 07:41 PM
And there you go. What, 11 pitches?

Australian Red
08-23-2012, 07:42 PM

Haha seems to happen every time. But was bound to happen with Valdez and Cueto hitting.

MrRedLegger
08-23-2012, 07:47 PM
Cueto's 2-seam is the sexiest thing in baseball. Sexier than Joe Mauer's dandruff-free face.

chuck6660
08-23-2012, 07:49 PM
With Cairo and Valdez starting I think Sparky Baker is conceding this game. Those two couldn't hit their way out of a wet paper bag...but, you know you got to play 'em so they're HOT bats don't go cold. They are both a defensive and offensive degradation at 1B and 2B.

68 pitches for Cueto through 3...many indicators saying this won't be our game....
Cairo & Valdez starting, Bruce hitting 3rd against a lefty, Phillips not playing, Stubbs still playing. I predict Bruce will have an 0 fer tonight and K at least 3 times. Don't get me wrong..I love the Reds....but batting Bruce 3rd against a lefty, he has proved he chokes
under pressure....and using Cairo & Valdez...geesh, not a lineup to score much at all

Could've bunted Leake and PR Paul....now you have a pitcher (albeit an athletic gamer type) running for a huge run. Leake would be the 17th inning pitcher to PH and could play a position if needed.

Why bring in Hoover in such a tight situation? He's played in 17 career major league games. You've got to think he's going to be nervous.

And well done a second time by Cairo. I haven't been reactionary about getting rid of him yet this year, but that might've been the last straw for me.

The decision to rest guys was I'm sure about 162 and then some. We've been doing it all year and it's working out alright.

It does suck that some of our bench players are terrible though lol.
