The 2013 schedule is not officially set, but the tentative one has an interesting twist for the Reds.

For the first time in history, the Reds will open against an American League team. As it stands, the Reds will open on Monday, April 1, against the Los Angeles Angels at Great American Ball Park.

That will be followed by an off day Tuesday, then games on Wednesday and Thursday.

Interesting, to say the least.

It also appears that the season is slated to begin on Monday again next year as opposed to the Thursday starts to the season that MLB has had each of the past two years.

Hmmm, I wonder who tipped off Fay to the schedule. And if they told him any other tidbits about it.

Interleague Play on Opening Day in Cincy? Ugh.

I know we've gotta have interleague at all times now due to the evening out of the leagues but you'd think they could do that with an in-state rivalry somewhere, instead of yet again dumping on baseball's oldest team and taking away more of our Opening Day traditions.

Maybe I'm just a grumpy old 25-year old, but I don't like it. Get off my lawn!

Bits and pieces of next year's schedule have been leaked over the past few days throughout baseball.

Someone snapped a photo of the Phillies tentative schedule for next season:

The Phillies are currently slated to visit Cincinnati April 15-17, 2013. The Reds will travel to Philadelphia for a weekend series on May 17-19.

The Cardinals are tentitively scheduled to visit Anaheim to see Albert Pujols

Ozzie Guillen's Marlins will reportedly go to Chicago to play his former team, the White Sox, during interleague play next season.

To me, this could be looked at as the Reds making a bit of history. Unless I am way off this will be the first season opening interleague matchup ever. The Reds have been involved in so many firsts in their history, why not add another?

Agreed.

I'm all for traditions but with the unbalanced schedule this coming about was inevitable. Might as well embrace it. And facing the Angels should be a pretty big match up that will be exciting for both teams and fans around the league. I'm extremely happy to see the Monday Opening Day return. I hated this Thursday start the past couple years. Having that traditional Monday afternoon game is great.

Anybody seen anything on who the Reds are going to play on the road in inter league play? I try to hit one new park a year and usually I hit up an inter league game if I can.

Never going to happen. They need the off day after opening day in case of a weather issue. You aren't going to go a Saturday without baseball.

Actually, I am betting the Reds make a roadtrip that includes Texas and Houston. If Cardinals going to Anaheim to face Pujols, why not the Reds going to Texas to face Hamilton?

I know and I hate that off day, next to the 4 day all-star break the reds seem to get every year it seems like the longest off day of the season.

Boo for opening against an AL team. Just ridiculous.

I'd even take opening against the Cubs for the 15th time in the last 20 years over opening with an AL team.

I don't understand why playing an AL team to kick off the season bothers some people. I can understand why people don't like interleague play in general, but is having an interleague series to begin the season worse than an interleague series during the middle of the season?

It's gonna happen so just go with it, it's part of the game now and someone will have to kick off the season as the Guinea pig team might as well be the Reds

I thought the Reds might start the season with an AL team. It wouldn't surprise if most of MLB starts with inter-league games.

I like it! The Reds once again a part of baseball history - there will be a lineup card from this game at the very least in the HOF.

Who cares who they're playing and what day it's on - it's opening day In Cincinnati and hopefully they'll be celebrating a World Series championship as well!

How many IL games will the REDS play next year? Each team will play 20 interleague games next season. Some series will have to be either 2 of 4 games instead of the standard 3 game series that interleague series have always been.

When Vin Scully announced that he was coming back next season he mentioned that the Dodgers were going to play a series in Yankee Stadium. He said that was a small part of the reason for returning so he could do some games in the new Yankee Stadium.
