Can't go wrong with that lineup. Votto is only like 80% and wont be 100% this season i guess

Is that a catcher batting somewhere other than 8th?:p

Biff Pocoroba

It's amazing how much stronger this lineup looks via the domino effect of re-inserting Votto into the three spot (and swapping out Heisey for Stubbs).

Would love to see this be the primary playoff lineup - at least 1-6 with Hanigan batting 7th and Cozart 8th.

I have no problem with back to back days off for Cozy....as long as it's communicated as rest and not a benching....but Dusty's gonna communicate that.

Keep Hanny fresh as well. I think Luddy could also use two games off.

Rolen needs to sit for 4-5 games....maybe use for defense late. Looks like his shoulder is acting a bit on his swings....rest seems to help.

Agreed on all. Having an off-day tomorrow (between home games) will help certainly. I also like that we play the Astros and we have a nice cushion. All that adds up to Dusty being able to give some guys some well deserved rest while also keeping the bench players sharp.

I think that would be the smart thing to do this last month so we can get him ready for the postseason. With Votto back it shouldn't be hard to do.

Leake can field. Snags an Utley grounder and throws on to Votto. EZ. 9 pitches, 7 strikes.

Does Heisey in the 2-spot mean Stubbs will be batting second when he is in there?

My guess is Phillips-Cozart-Votto.

texasdave

Phillips just misses a double down the left-field line and then chases a cutter for strike 3.

texasdave
09-05-2012, 12:43 PM
Heisey is 11 for the last 24 and is getting first AB of the series. Dusty says he is having a hard time finding playing time for Chris. Because you know Drew is en fuego and all.

Dusty use of his top 3 relievers in 2002 World Series.....

6 of 7 games
5 of 7 games
5 of 7 games

They don't play everyday and they'll be rested.....take your 4 starters and top 3 relievers and there is still spots for Simon, Arrendondo, Leake and whoever.....those guys can pitch when we suck....but Leake is a better PR than everyone but Heisey and maybe Paul. Leake's OPS for the season is near .700

Plus Dusty will take 12.....he'd be getting a major screw over IMO.

texasdave
09-05-2012, 01:17 PM

You used to be able to throw Heisey a breaking ball and get him out easily. Not anymore.

Yep. He still hacks occasionally but he is learning to lay off of them.

Villarreal had some rather pedestrian numbers in the minors.

Curious to see why he got the call up.

Since we're in September now, if they are planning on not having Leake on the postseason roster why wouldn't you shut him down? Doesn't have many more starts, we have callups, and he's thrown a lot of innings already.

Don't you have to take into account the fact that those starts were earlier in the year and he is getting pounded just about every time he steps on the mound now?

Has a pitcher who threw 180 innings during the season ever been left off of a playoff roster?

I still say the 13th and 14th position players in the playoffs are more important than the 10th-12th pitchers.
