Looks like he's planning to go Cueto-Arroyo-Latos

if thats true then thats terrible

I don't have a problem with it. I had a feeling it'd be Arroyo or Bailey for game 2 because Latos can handle pitching in our small park. When he's on it doesn't matter where the game is at.

But bailey cannot pitch well against good teams at GABP

it kinda does not matter. if he's pitching game 2 he's still only pitching once. I knew Cueto would pitch game 1.

I like it. I think Latos is better but I trust Bronson also.

Also im not pitching our 4th best pitcher 1/2 to make him happy.

I also think we will win series one even with this planned rotation, but I think Latos should be in the #1 spot hands down. I want him going twice in the opening series if a game 5 is necessary.

If one of those guys are going to start in game 2 it should be Homer.

ERA/WHIP/BAA on Road
3.49/1.07/.242 for Arroyo
2.63/1.09/.228 for Bailey

I'm sorry, but Cueto has earned his status as the ace of this team's rotation. He starts game one, period.

Given that we'll be on the road and probably facing SF's ace in game one, I pick my game two starter based on the notion that we could be down in the series and need to salvage a split. That requires a guy who's not going wilt under the pressure. If you look through history, Pettite has always been that guy for the Yankees.

If I'm the Reds, I don't think I trust Homer in that spot. I'd be perfectly fine with Latos in that spot, but Arroyo works too. If the combo of Cueto and Arroyo earn you a split, then you have to feel good about your chances at home with Cueto and Latos slated for two of the games. And you can feel decent about Bailey knowing that if he gives you at leat five decent innings, you'll have that bullpen waiting in the wings at the first sign of trouble

I think I would have to go with Latos game one because of his success vs. the Giants, and he's been the Reds' best pitcher lately. I acknowledge Cueto earning his #1 status, but I have to go with the "hot hand".

I sort of tend to agree. Thought it would be Bailey over Arroyo, but the order of Cueto and Latos doesn't surprise me. I like it, in fact.

Regarding Arroyo over Bailey, though, Bronson does have some deep post-season experience from his Boston days and did well for us in 2010, in spite of the team getting swept. So I won't split hairs.

Spot on. And the fact that Cueto has been cold lately. Poor decision, end of story. Probably will not cost us though, as i expect Johnny to rise to the occasion.

Looks like the thought police did not approve of my original post.

They don't understand the difference between calling an idea moronic and calling a person a moron.

Very sad state of affairs IMO. :(

Hard call.

- Bronson in big park of San Francisco is probably preferable to Bronson at GABP compared to Latos's stuff looks better at home.
- The biggest decision is Game 4...Bailey at GABP is really worse vs. on the road.

i think bailey has improved but i still trust bronson more. also bronson is having a really really good year.

I really wanted Latos to start twice in a theoretical 5 game series. Oh well..

They could run Ondrusek out for game one, Arredondo for game two and Simon for games three, four and five and it doesn't matter. Reds will find a way to win. It is their year.

While I might not go quite that far, I do share your confidence that we will win the opening series. :)

PS I like the confidence you exhibit. It has me fired up for the post season to begin!

Dusty going with the veterans first. Does that surprise anyone?

Veteran's that have pitched well though. Cueto could be a 20-game winner. Arroyo has an ERA under 3 in the second half of the season.

the way I look at it, the bullpen will be rested and ready when the regular season ends. They'll have one or two days off prior to the series and then a day off after Game two. Assuming that Latos can pitch pretty far into Game 3, then we'll have our entire bullpen at full strength and at our disposal for Game 4 should Bailey shows signs of faltering.

GOLD CUP: The Reds’ postgame victory celebration Saturday included players drinking from a big, gold trophy cup. Not exactly the Stanley Cup, and not exactly a priceless heirloom.

“I got it from an antique store,” catcher Devin Mesoraco said. “I think it came from talking about the Ohio Cup (Reds-Indians trophy), but I’m not sure.”

As one story goes, outfielder Ryan Ludwick had been talking about “winning the cup.” Mesoraco bought an actual “cup,” which has sat in the middle of the Reds’ clubhouse for about half the season.

“Everybody was happy about the Cup,” Mesoraco said. “We talked about trying to win the Cup every series.”

Homer needs to start one of the road games, anything else is a mistake.

He should start a road game, but that is not how Dusty works.

I figure the no no ends any chance of Mike Leake slipping in the playoff rotation outside injury. Probably pitching for the pen.

The numbers don't lie. The smart play is Latos-Bailey-Cueto, even though it's unconventional to have your best guy from the entire season going third.

I also like how it gives the Reds a clear matchup upper-hand in Game 3.

Homer needs to start one of the road games, anything else is a mistake. I have stated recently that I like this playoff format because it exposes the other team's number 4 starter against Homer. Keep it the way it is.

Homer is now 9-2 with a 2.41 ERA on the road along with a 1.00 WHIP and .211 BAA, if Dusty is going to not have Mat in game two he needs to do the right thing and get Bailey a road start.

ERA/WHIP/BAA
3.98/1.37/.295 Bronson at home
3.49/1.07/.242 Bronson on road
5.16/1.50/.299 Homer at home
2.41/1.00/.211 Homer on road

Full home slash line
.299/.348/.526/.874 for Homer
.295/.333/.442/.775 for Bronson

At GABP Homer gets hit like every batter was the 2012 version of Robinson Cano with a worse eye. But on the road only Gio Gonzalez .208, Yu Darvish .209 and Clayton Kershaw .210 are hit less than Homers .211 road BAA this year form SP with 8 or more road starts.

It's almost comical that the self evident rotation for the Frisco series should be:

Game 1 away - Latos, owns the Giants
Game 2 away - Bailey, his away splits are off the chart

Game 3 Home - Cueto, pitches as well at home as on the road
Game 4 Home - Arroyo, crafty veteran
Game 5 Home - Latos, we could do a lot worse and if if came down to Cueto and Latos pitching the 5th game it's a coin toss IMO

Why announce it so early? Don't give the other team a chance to do their homework a week in advance.

Agree except flip Cueto and Latos.

Cueto
Bailey
Latos
Arroyo
Cueto

I think the Reds would win in 3. I almost feel like they are giving away game 2. Although Marcum can be wild at times too.

I think you gotta set the tone and put out your big gun in game 1. If Latos blows up, we probably lose him for the rest of the post-season. He would have a tough time bouncing back.

Cueto will be number 1 no matter what. In the NLDS, only one pitcher goes 2 times.
