Brandon Phillips 4
Zack Cozart 6
Joey Votto 3
Todd Frazier 5
Jay Bruce 9
Dioner Navarro 2
Xavier Paul 7
Drew Stubbs 8
Matt Latos 1

Stubbs all the way down to the 8-hole. From leadoff to the 8-hole. How the mighty have fallen. Hope he takes some walks at least.

Right where Stubbs needs to be

You can tell Dusty didn't make this Lineup......back to back to back, left handed hitters @ 5-7. AMAZING.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 01:02 PM
Peralta is bringing the high, hard cheese today.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 01:07 PM
A quick two innings. No hits and no walks. And just as I type that, Carlos Gomez sends one out to right.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 01:08 PM
A hard smash that Phillips oles. Excellent play.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 01:11 PM
Another great play by Phillips as he barehands the high hopper and just nips a flying Aoki.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 01:14 PM
Stubbs with a ground single down the right field line.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 01:15 PM
Latos bunts him along to second.

ThatPitchIsDunn

Latos is one of those pitchers that, with the right help, could turn into a good hitter.

ThatPitchIsDunn
09-27-2012, 01:18 PM
Latos is one of those pitchers that, with the right help, could turn into a good hitter.

I forget who brought that up recently on the air...it might have even been McCarver (gasp!). They said the Reds are one of the most athletic teams in terms of versatility at every position.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 01:25 PM
Reds are a talented team.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 01:26 PM
Latos has yet to pitch from the stretch through four.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 01:30 PM
Votto walks to lead off the fourth.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 01:32 PM
Reds showing a little patience this inning.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 01:33 PM
I think should be a balk when the pitcher comes to a stretch and then keep inching their front foot into place. That is a balk.

NebraskaRed
09-27-2012, 01:34 PM
Frazier needs to be rested for the next 6 games.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 01:34 PM
Frazier has definitely hit a wall of some kind.

Biff Pocoroba
09-27-2012, 01:41 PM
It seems as though our whole offense has collectively hit that wall. We've really been anemic for a growing stretch here. And it's not like we're in a stretch where we're facing particularly great pitchers either.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 01:43 PM
Gomez two for two. He steals second.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 01:45 PM
Latos gets out of the mini-jam on a pop to Navarro. 1-0 as the Reds head into the bottom of the fifth.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 01:52 PM
XP goes the other way and stands on first.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 01:53 PM
Nobody is even sitting next to Mesoraco. Hoping whatever he has isn't contagious.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 01:55 PM
Another boneheaded baserunning play. Geez this team is bad on the bases. Gomez catches a flyball in the gap and Paul is standing on third. Gomez can play a serious centerfield.

ThatPitchIsDunn
09-27-2012, 01:57 PM
Not really sure what X-Man was trying to do there. Although I thought that ball was gonna carry out like Gomez's shot.

texasdave

If it was going to carry out Paul could have trotted home.

It was nice to see Stubbs put a charge into one. Two good swings for Drew today.

Maker_84
09-27-2012, 01:58 PM
Not only can this team not hit but they cant run the bases either. Thankfully the Brewers wont be in the playoffs because the Reds would lose to them too

ThatPitchIsDunn

Isn't Peralta a converted reliever? Maybe his stuff will start straightening out in the next few innings.

ThatPitchIsDunn
09-27-2012, 02:01 PM
Nasty. With the exception of the Cards game, Latos has been nails since mid-May.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 02:06 PM
Latos' ERA is down to 3.54.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 02:09 PM
In his last 18 starts (including today) his ERA is 2.47.

texasdave

ThatPitchIsDunn
09-27-2012, 02:10 PM

texasdave

Cozy up the middle. Nice. Will Votto see a strike? The way Frazier is hitting, I wouldn't give him anything to hit.

ThatPitchIsDunn
09-27-2012, 02:20 PM

For a lot of Reds' hitters there is no middle ground.

Biff Pocoroba
09-27-2012, 02:26 PM
so uh, when do we get Ludwick back? This offense might look a fair amount better with a post-AS break Ludwick in the clean-up spot.

That and someone, anyone, who can actually hit from the lead-off position.

That's not their point, to start Arredondo btw. They were saying it might be difficult if they face the Cards in the first round, when they just got a look at Latos and Arroyo.

texasdave
09-27-2012, 02:33 PM
If this year's playoffs weren't Seliged and they played 2-2-1 with an extra day off,
Cueto and Latos would have started 4 of the potential 5 first round games.

Aren't they one game back of the Nats? I guess two technically, since the Nats beat them head-to-head.

texasdave

This is like earlier in the year. If the ball isn't flying out, this team struggles to score.

If there's a bright side to (potentially) losing today, it's that Milwaukee moves to within three games with a home series coming up against Houston. St. Louis is going to get that final wild card, but it would be nice if it takes them until the very last days to nail it down.

(I have faith though that we come back today)

I hear what you are saying but then again, the pitching staff sure did what was needed to get a win. They gave up only one walk and one extra base hit all day.

Our offense is obviously going to step up to some extent, but if they do, we have the starting pitching and bullpen that can get us deep into the playoffs.

And to just think that when that deal was done there were many people complaining about we gave up too much and that Latos was a product of Petco Park. He got off to a slow start, but has been an absolute beast since then. His attitude has been great I think so far. It's amazing what being a winner will do for a player, a team, and a fanbase. I wish we would have tanked this series, now we helped the Cardinals in to the playoffs and gave them a cushion to allow them to set their rotation to anything they want and allow them to start anyone they like in the play in game. So we could have potentially set up out own poison pill.

Who cares about them setting up there rotation. There is still a high chance the braves make it in instead of them. I think you win all you can and play for the high seed. I'm telling you, the Cards are nowhere near a good as the giants right now.

They have just as good of a shot as the Braves do and I would pick them as the favorite with all of the 3 guys they could now start. Everyone is in love with Kris Medlen but he hasn't done much in his career vs winning teams with a 5-7 record with a 3.98 ERA vs 13-1 and 2.16 vs losing teams.

I would rather play the Giants personally the Reds are 2-0 off Cain this year and the rest of their starters are having issues and are fading down the stretch. The Cards have a team full of banged up bats, by allowing them to get locked up early we are allowing them to rest those guys up to get a second win for the playoffs.

The last thing I want to see if the Cardinals get healthy and hot for a short series.
Beltran .217 last 45 games
Holliday .208 last 27 games
Freese .247 last 47 games
Jay .266 last 30 games
Craig .267 last 28 games

That's the whole top of their lineup coming into the playoffs due, its kinda scary especially when you factor in..

Career vs Cardinals
1-4, 10.24 for Mat Latos
4-4, 4.66 for Johnny Cueto
8-12, 4.54 for Bronson Arroyo
3-7, 5.32 for Homer Bailey
2-2, 4.66 for Mike Leake

They have beat us in 3 of 4 series we played this year. Sucks we could have hand picked who we played but we pulled a Phillies and set up to play our worst match up possible in the DS and give them a chance rest their slumping banged up hitters who had been rode hard trying to make it, and then they get to set up any rotation they like rather than fighting it out to game 162.

Biff Pocoroba
09-28-2012, 12:49 PM
If the goal is to win it all, you don't play scared. And the notion that we'd purposefully tank a series out of fear of St. Louis is a losing mentality.
