This Reds Lineup looks like a playoff card, and probably will be...I see Dusty has the best man at cleanup for a change.

Below will most likely be Matheneys playoff card if they make it

St. Louis

J. Jay cf
C. Beltran rf
M. Holliday lf
A. Craig 1b
Y. Molina c
D. Freese 3b
D. Descalso 2b
P. Kozma ss
J. García p

I'm sure you guys don't know who Kozma is, but he is fast making Furcal a forgotten man. Keep an eye on him. ;)

Very true....last year it was Craig that came up and just MASHED in Sept....but he was a known good hitter with much power. Kosma? A total head scratcher!

So, do you guys want to see the Reds with home field adv. thru the playoffs?

Maker_84

this team should never try to steal bases because 1. they lack speed and 2. they arent scoring runs lately so they need all the baserunners they can get

No score through one as St. Louis strands a pair.Yup...Molina hit a key HR about 3 games ago but has went into the tank ever since...just an occasional single since...but as you saw there his arm is good.

Some on the Old Red Guard have advocated moving him up to 2nd because his power is obviously down but he's still getting on. It's...an interesting theory, anyway.

Please find me any other team in baseball to do that over the past 10 years....

They won zero series on the road against playoff teams in 2 months and seen the 3 worst teams in the league 4 times and 2 series each with the other mediocre West teams. How many teams get that kind of luck with their scheduling over 2 months?

Tough call...Heisey can run into one and tie it and Molina has a cannon. I would still green light him tho.

He actually hit that ball pretty HARD! 2 hits for Drew (I thought the 1st one, was a gift, but it's in the book.)

Yes since Heisey is up, if you get 2nd you have a RBI chance if he's out you have 3 bats up in front of Joey.

The Cards' relief formula in this last month or so has been Mojica in the 7th, then Boggs and Motte.....they rarely give up anything.

Nobody ever said anything about home-field advantage.

HometownHero said the Braves loss officially made them the number one wildcard.

You said, 'HUH'?

And I answered it by responding that it made them the number one wildcard because now they can't catch the Gnats (meaning the Nats). They can't win the division.

The Extra WC killed any hope of drama the last couple games, as all 10 teams are looking to be locked in after tonight. Without it NY/Baltimore and the Rangers/A's fighting for the Divisions and the losers the only WC spot would be a crazy finish.

This is why if I am in charge Latos goes game #1, Bailey #2, he is awesome on the road, then Cueto at home for game #3 as he doesnt give up the long ball at home Bailey does, then Arroyo game#4.

In 2010, this is why i was so ticked Baker started Volquez game #1 when we all knoew back then Travis Wood almost no hit the Phillies during the season. To me that would have been a psychological advantage the Reds would have had back then.. I just dont want the same mistake with the roation cost them.. maybe im reading to much into it.. just looking for the best opportunity this team needs to win with a lousy offense for the month of September and it hasnt changed getting ready for the playoffs..

Reds offense is really iffy heading into playoffs. Better play air tight defense and get fantastic starting pitching because this team is is a month long slumber with the lumber

It isn't going to matter much how our pitchers do, unless they throw shutouts
every game. This is the weakest offense of any team going into the playoffs.
I hate to say it, but this team will lose in the first round to the Giants. I have been very critical regarding the Reds offense all year. Walt & Company needed to help the offense before the trade deadline, but did nothing. I am more convinced now that the mid year surge had to do more with us playing a lot of weaker teams, along with Frazier and Ludwick having a good stretch for about 6 weeks. Our hitting now has reverted back to what it was doing
before the All Star break.
I would love to eat crow, but I am convinced this is how our season will finish.

LA has a lead on the Giants, trying to hang in with the Cards in the WC

The same thing happened with the Giants when Melky got suspended. The team starting hitting better in his absence. I wonder if the players approach the plate differently and get better in the absence of an all-star. Maybe they feel they have to step up more. Either way, I hope we pick it up!

Not worried about the bats, it's a damn long season and if our guys have taken a little mental rest down the stretch I have no problem with it. They don't need to be going 120 mph down the stretch and then wear themselves down and flame out. Dusty knows that as well as anyone, he'll have them ready.

Also remember he's been gone for a little bit, that'll normally put your team in a weird place. I'm sure a lot of those guys love Dusty and were generally concerned for him. Life is far more important than a baseball game, that's for sure.
