The Marlins have fired manager Ozzie Guillen, the team announced. The Marlins, who traded for Guillen a year ago, finished the 2012 season 69-93, last in the NL East.

Guillen had three years and $7.5MM remaining on his contract with Miami. Bench coach Joey Cora has also been dismissed, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports (on Twitter (https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/260830733218742272)).

This is poetic justice. The Marlins are a train wreck up and down.

Hey, I understand Bobby Valentine might be available.

Hey maybe they could try and land John Farrell from the Red Sox.

Pena would be a good choice. Acta's "act" might be getting a little old.

They need someone they can control. Might have to be someone who will be getting their first shot and will do anything to get it.

Chin up, Ozzie. Your stint as Marlin manager lasted longer than Kim Kardashian's marriage.

This has to be the least surprising sports story of the year. I live in South Florida, and I feel like Guillen has basically been a lame duck since his Castro comments. Add a healthy dose of losing to the equation, and this was a foregone conclusion.

Now they need to fire the owner...

I thought they should have fired him after those comments. I'm sure that had an effect on that team and certainly did the the majority of fans in that area. You have the right to speak your mind but you had better know your audience when you do speak it.

Interesting. I don't remember anyone here having him on their wishlist to replace Dusty, when that was still looking like a possibility.

He was cited in an article sometime this summer as being one of the coaches in the league ready to make that step up

Apparently Mike Redmond is a front runner. Really hope Price doesn't get poached from us.

I think the Marlins next move should be to trade Giancarlo Stanton to the Reds.

If Price gets away the Reds will be in terrible shape. Power is not a major league coach, IMO and Jenkins is VERY lucky to have the job he has right now.

He must have figured out a lot last offseason. ;)

Nothing more then my opinion, but I believe Price is Walt's choice to replace Dusty, and he wanted to make that change this off season and was overruled. Why else bring in an assistant pitching coach last year?

If that is the case, why have a GM? Why would Walt put up with this if Cast will not allow him to have "his guy" as the manager.

I have inside sources (I know, I know . . . another random guy on the internet with "inside sources") who all say the same thing: Dusty Baker is here because of Bob Castellini. Don't forget that Jocketty was Castellini's choice, too.

They probably didn't want him. That's what happens a lot with these kind of jobs. It lets the candidate save face.

Price has withdrawn his name from the Marlins job according to Traderumors.... Why?Maybe in his conversation with Walt to renew his deal, he was given a nice bump in pay and assurance that he is now the Reds' manager-in-waiting?

That'd be the best-case scenario, IMO.

I was mildly surprised when his name came up for the Marlins job. While he might be a great pick, he's not a "name" manager. Miami seems locked in to the notion that it needs to make a splash in order to sell tickets.

Really? I'm not saying you are wrong but they haven't been linked to any big names have they?
