Just saw on Twitter. For Stubbs & Gregorious. Choo would CF and leadoff.

Here's your link http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/danny-knobler/21363341/reds-in-talks-to-acquire-choo-from-indians

If true, this would be the move the Reds need to take them over the top. Choo would provide perfect balance to the Reds batting order and would be the perfect 1 year bridge to give Billy Hamilton the needed seasoning in AAA. Love to see this go through.

If Stubbs and Gregorius is all it takes, get it done yesterday, Walt. I'm guessing a third player might be involved, though. Hopefully, it's not one of the pitching prospects.

This trade also would likely be good for Bronson Arroyo's psyche.

3 years of Stubbs + 6 years of Gregorious for 1 year of Choo makes no sense.

There will be another player coming to Cincy

I hate to lose Gregorious, but you have to give to get. I like this lineup.

Choo CF
Phillips 2nd
Votto 1st
Ludwick LF
Bruce RF
Frazier 3rd
Hanigan/Mes C
Cozart SS

That could do some major damage. I hope we don't have to give up Cingrani or Corcino to get this done.

So play offense for the first 6 or 7 innings. Get the lead, then pull Ludwick, move Choo to left, and insert Heisey in the outfield to help protect the lead.

Between late inning substitutions and periodic days off for Ludwick, Choo wouldn't spend all year in center. Regardless, of weakening the outfield defenst you have to do this for the upgrade at leadoff and especially after the Nats went out and got Span. Have to improve the offense to keep up with Nats and Dodgers next year!

If this really happens I like our chances with Chapman to the rotation, full year of Frazier at 3b, full year of Votto, a top tier leadoff man. Suddenly a 97 win team just got better starting pitching and a better offense!

So Choo and another player for Didi and Stubbs? I love Gregorius, but if this is the extent of the deal, then I'm all for it without even knowing who the other player from the Indians is. Choo is a massive upgrade to the offense, and even if the Reds can't resign him, he's a lock to turn down arbitration and will net the Reds an extra supplemental first round pick. This also takes some pressure off of Hamilton to produce immediately and gives him a full season to marinate in AAA. Again, great move by Walt if this does in fact go down as it is currently being reported.

I liked what we saw of Gregorius this year, but I like Choo a whole lot more. I see no downside to this deal. Any idea who the other player besides Choo would be?

It's no longer turning down arbitration. It's turning down a contract offer at a certain money amount (IIRC it was at about $13.3 million for 1 year this past year). Of course Choo will turn down that kind of offer too. Just thought I would throw that out there.

Bridge year to Hamilton. If it does nothing more than remove Stubbs as an option for Dusty, it's worth it. Plus, it keeps Choo from hitting 7-8 extra-base hits against the Reds next season. :p

If this goes through and the Indians get/keep Stubbs, anybody wanna set an early over/under on total strikeouts combined for the prolific whiff duo of Drew Stubbs and Mark Reynolds?

400? 450??

Either way, it's gonna be windy in Cleveland. lol

If it happens this is an absolute steal for the reds. Considering stubbs has almost negative value, and Gregorious's best year since rookie ball in the minors is .289 BA, and a .324 obp.

Crazyiness!!!! Walt better get this done

After 2013, he's a free agent. He's a boras client as well.

There looking to net something, before it's to late.

You might argue and say.."wouldn't choo have more value during the trade deadline period?"

Well considering it would be a 2 month rental, I imagine the amount of prospects would lessened to quite a degree, compared to trading Choo during the offseason, allowing teams to have a full 1 year, and thus requiring more in return.

You hate a player with a career .289 Batting Average, a .381 OBP, a .847 OPS, someone who has great speed, averages roughly 20-30 Stolen Bases a year, has great pop, and could easily hit 25+ in our bandbox, and plays great d?

Would you SERIOUSLY prefer to keep stubbs? Honestly?

I live in the greater Cleveland area so all i hear about all the time how he's so great and that cheer they do with choooo is annoying. He's also killed the reds his entire career. Hate on Stubbs all you want but he was more productive than alot of the reds players in the playoffs. Im not against the trade but if it doesn't get done i wont be upset

If Choo can play a passable CF (which is not a guarantee) he will be a huge coup for this team. Offensively, having Choo and Phillips ahead of Votto instead of Cozart and Stubbs will equal a ton of RBI opportunities for the middle of the order

As most of you know, I was probably the last remaining passenger on the Drew Stubbs bandwagon, before finally jumping off in 2012. All I can say is, MAKE IT HAPPEN, WALT! I've never been a Choo fan, but it's only because he has absolutely destroyed us his entire career. This trade would be huge. It would be a downgrade defensively, but a big upgrade for our lineup. I'm going to try not to get my hopes up, but I'm giddy about the possibility.

SweetLou1990

The #'s defensively for Choo in RF look similiar to Bruce's defensively (I'm not saying they are the same player). If Walt is thinking of doing this, the scouts for the Redlegs must think defensively that Choo can get the job done. In Walt I trust.

WAR (2012)
Choo 3.1
Stubbs -0.2 the minus sign means effing NEGATIVE
OK Walt , go ahead

and that is with Choo's worst defensive year of his career. It all depends if that year was an anomaly or a trend. Before last year he was an above average RF. Hopefully a new team can spark an old fire for defense.

This would be a coup if Walt could pull it off. He's the perfect fit. 2 years left on the contract is plenty of time to ease Billy into the position, especially if an injury situation comes up. We solve our leadoff hitter problems, trade a blocked prospect, and might even get a throw-in to go along with it. All without breaking the bank. Oh, did I mention he's a lefty? No more worrying about Dusty's lineup shuffling.

EDIT: One year. All the same, it looks like a good deal for us, getting what we need.

2012 player slaries
Stubbs $527,500 - similiar #'s in 2013
Choo 4,900,00 (3.9 mill in 2013 - can't hardly believe he would get a 1 mill paycut from 12')

This will prob eat up the majority of the expendable income for 2013 (not sure of the 2013 salaries)
