Question for anyone with DirecTV service, please
I have a quick question for anyone kind enough to answer. I am considering getting DirecTV, something I've thought about doing for a while and recently talked with a local dealer and things sound good enough to go, to where I could have it hooked up this weekend.
The question is, it wasn't until after I finished talking with him that I thought about this -- I recall hearing sometime back that you had to have a special package to receive the FSN affiliates..... now I realize that makes sense if you want to have ALL the FSN channels, but I heard somewhere that even your particular local affiliate can only be found in this package. I hope that's not the case. I won't be able to afford a $100 bill monthly, and am getting something closer to their "basic" package, it's about $50 a month. Am I safe to assume that the local FSN (in our case, FSN Ohio), will be included in this package since ESPN, TNT, USA, Spike, FX and other similar basic cable networks are here?
Thanks a lot in advance, I thought it would help to ask here real quick before committing to buy.

Javy, I have DirectTV and, yes, you would have to get a separate package for all the Fox channels but you don't have to get that package just for your local FSN affiliate. Now I step up to that Fox package in the fall and spring so I can see a lot of college football and basketball and it is only $12 a month more.

I'll chime in just to agree with what Chip said. My folks have the basic DirecTV package and they get the local FSN and all the Reds' games.

Alright, thanks very much for the responses, Chip and Buck, much appreciated. Sounds good, I'll probably have it done this weekend!

$12 a month? I have DISH and get the sports pack that has all the RSN's for only $5.99 a month.

One thing to add on the RSN Sports package. A whole lot of sports, especially Pro-Sports, ie MLB, NHL, NBA, etc will be blacked out. But there are some excellent college games on in the fall/winter and spring training games are usually avaiable.

College football games show up now and then..so it's worth a bit, but all the major sports are blocked
You can get the pre game shows though :D

I just switched from direct tv to dish network and would highly recommend dish network. JMO but I got 25 more channels and dvr for 4 bucks less a month and they upgraded my equipment so that everytime it rains it doesnt go out. I wish we would have never got direct tv but again JMO.

I actually did have Dish for a few years up until about three years ago, but had plenty of troubles out of them and customer service, so I probably won't be joining back up with them. Really, from what I gather, you can get similar deals cut for you from either group, it just depends on what kinda dealer or middleman you have. The way it was presented to me, it's actually the opposite, it looks like I'll be getting 25 more from Direct though both prices and packages were mostly similar, but my problems with Dish a few years ago were enough to tip me toward Direct instead. I really do appreciate your and everyone's input on this, thanks to those who've posted.
