This kind of post adds nothing at all to Redszone.

He is a 21 year old who has been pulled from his native country at a young age, given a load of money after a youth of poverty, given the star treatment while still a teenager and you expect him to be all mature and wise for his years? I don't understand...

Look at the doubles. Doubles in the minors are a good indicator of future HR power in the majors. (A lot of other things need to fall into place, of course.)

I should have emphasized the "some" and "potential" in my post - I am very happy with the power he's shown at his age.
Re: The dawn of Yorman Rodriguez?
Nice write up on Yorman from a former scout.

I have only seen Rodriguez this fall, so I have nothing with which to compare. From what I have seen, however, his swing is nice and compact, and he is seeing pitches well. With a reputation of chasing pitches, Rodriguez's pitch recognition has been good. In games I've scouted, he hasn't offered at pitches he doesn't think he can drive.
It is evident Rodriguez is working hard on plate discipline and pitch recognition this fall. To date, the results are encouraging.
I would say Rodriguez falls in the high-risk, high-reward category.

Clearly still a work in progress, the coming season may well determine if Rodriguez is more a prototypical scout projection only or if he indeed realizes the results his visible raw skills project. He is a gifted athlete, but he has work ahead to smooth some rough, raw edges.
Re: The dawn of Yorman Rodriguez?
Yorman can play his age 21 and 22 seasons in the minors before having to be kept on the 25 man. Seems about right. If he seems ready sooner, fine, but they don't have to rush him. Stay patient with this kid. The ceiling is very high.

In addition, it's nice to read the high praise of his defense. Past reports haven't been nearly so friendly. All in all, this is a very encouraging glimpse.

Agree with this post entirely. Yorman was one of my two breakout candidates for 2013. I'd say he approached that. One technicality: with a birthday of 8/15/92, I think his upcoming season is his 22 year old season.

The way I see it, whether right or wrong, is that since he'll play almost the entire 2014 season as a 21 year old, it's his 21 year old season. Either way, he's still comfortably ahead of the curve.

MLB calculates "ages" based on how old you are on June 30th of the season. 2014 will be his age 21 season.

Thanks for the correction. I thought they used the end of the season as the marker. No doubt he's way ahead of the curve.
Re: The dawn of Yorman Rodriguez?
Encouraging words no doubt, also encouraging he has been holding his own in the AFL. He and Stevenson will be my two prospects to keep track of the most this next year.
Re: The dawn of Yorman Rodriguez?
2 home runs today in the AFL. Pulled one and the other to right-center.
Re: The dawn of Yorman Rodriguez?
Would his ceiling be Carlos Beltran in his prime?
Re: The dawn of Yorman Rodriguez?
No- he's not close to the player Carlos Beltran is/was.
Guys....and gals.....I just dont see him ever breaking out - I think his ceiling is a good 4th outfielder. Somethings missing and I suspect it might be the age thing - idk, I wish he would make a jump and sort of dominate a league even for a month. His upside feels like Jose Guillen. I realize his age relative to league - but theres something missing.
