Re: Official Reds 2011 Draft Picks and signing update thread
From the Cincinnati Enquirer:
Quote:
Nothing doing The Reds haven't had any serious talks with top draft choice Robert Stephenson yet. The deadline for signing is Aug. 15. Most first-round picks seem to go right up to the deadline.
Only one first rounder has signed so far.

I still don't get what they're waiting for with Rosa or Wright...
Re: Official Reds 2011 Draft Picks and signing update thread
Nick Fleece (13) and Leo Kemp (14) have signed.

Yipee!! That officially narrows the pool of unsigned players to every player that I'm actually interested in:p
Seriously:
Stephenson
Rosa
Wright
Green
Covington
Serrano
Garrett
Romano
Costello
Phillips
are my top 10 guys from this draft. :dunno:
Re: Official Reds 2011 Draft Picks and signing update thread
50 1524 Austin Robichaux RHP Notre Dame HS (LA)
He would be a huge steal if Reds could get him signed. Has anyone heard what type bonus he was wanting?

Probably record setting money for the 50th Round which mean it wouldn't be approved until last minute if they do sign him.

Here's an article about Ryan Kemp, who we have listed as "Leo Kemp".

Ryan Kemp received the phone call he had waited for all his life.
The Columbia native had dreams of becoming a professional baseball player. Last week that dream was fulfilled in the 14th round of the Major League Baseball draft, when Kemp was selected by the Cincinnati Reds.

• Austin Robichaux was popped by the Reds in the 50th round. A righthander from Notre Dame High in Baton Rouge, Robichaux has a projectable frame at 6-foot-5, 180 pounds. His fastball sits in the upper 80s, but can touch the low 90s. He is committed to Louisiana-Lafayette where is father, Tony, is the head coach.
Re: Official Reds 2011 Draft Picks and signing update thread
When asked to explain the Reds' 50th pick of the 2011 draft, Chris Buckley said, "Well, we know Robichaux is 100% committed to the LSU program, but on the chance that his father and head coach, Tony, dies in the next couple weeks, we feel that he would become very signable. Therefore, it isn't a complete waste of a draft pick."

Reds sign 9th rounder Cole Green.
Quote:
Texas pitchers Cole Green and Sam Stafford have both reached terms on contracts with the major-league baseball teams that drafted them earlier this month, two sources told me.
Green, a senior right-hander, signed for about a $100,000 bonus with the Cincinnati Reds, who took him in the ninth round

Still don't understand the delay on Wright, Rosa, or Garrett. I know the Commish's office waits until the end to approve overslot deals, but it doesn't make sense for Garrett not to be pitching this summer. Given his basketball scholarship at SJU, he's not going to be spending much time working on his pitching in the offseason, and my understanding is that he didn't pitch all that much during the HS season. He needs to begin his development now. Ditto for Rosa and Wright, neither of whom should be demanding eye-popping deals.
As is the case with most first rounders, I doubt anything happens with Stephenson until mid-August.

Out of the Reds' hands. An agreement is not an agreement until the Commissioner's Office says it is.
