Re: 8/29 Game Thread - Reds at Dodgers
Have to wonder if tonight was a 5th or 6th coffin nail. Tonight is the first time the team goes to sleep in probably 6 weeks (guessing off the top of my head) without being a playoff team that day standings wise, and will be make it back?
Guess we can do a lot in Petco this weekend but man is it frustrating!
Re: 8/29 Game Thread - Reds at Dodgers
FIRST PITCH. Let me repeat, a dead gridlock for 6 innings of baseball, and Franklin comes in and gives up a game losing HR. Thats it, the season may as well be over after this defeat. If any set of games this year was supposed to set the tone for making the playoffs, it was this trip, and we're 1-5. Season is in serious trouble.
Re: 8/29 Game Thread - Reds at Dodgers
Thank god I've been drinking since midnight, goodnight, and see you tommorrow Greg Maddux. I hope your 40+ year old arm falls off.
Re: 8/29 Game Thread - Reds at Dodgers
F it, bring up Homer ASAP.
Re: 8/29 Game Thread - Reds at Dodgers
I couldn't agree more after this... bring up Homer, AND NOW.
We have nothing to lose at this point.
Re: 8/29 Game Thread - Reds at Dodgers
What makes the HR given up by Franklin even more pitiful is that Martinez had 1 HR in 164 AB's this season. He's less of a power guy than Royce Clayton.
Re: 8/29 Game Thread - Reds at Dodgers
All losses are frustrating obviously, but Stormy gave us 2 2/3 good innings, Bray went 2 solid innings. They just can't waste decent BP pitching performances like that.
I'm trying so hard to be a Reds enthusiast; I really am. Guys, you gotta win one of these momentum changers though. It's not enough to "hang in there".
I said before I think the bottom falls out once we're actually out of the WC lead. Well here it is. This Pads series becomes enormous now. We really have no other option than to sweep them in my opinion to stay atop this race.
Re: 8/29 Game Thread - Reds at Dodgers
You know what, I had a feeling all year it was going to happen. People called me pessimistic because after some big losses or losing streaks, when we still had the WC lead people would say 'oh yeah, stop being negative we still have the WC lead'. Well guess what? We don't anymore. Whens the last time this happened this year? And we've lost 5 games in a row with 4 more to go on this road trip.
I knew at any point in time this year, this could happen - a major 5 game or more losing streak that drops the Reds out of contention. The sad fact is, not a single WC team has gotten hot yet either, this happened just on the Reds own volition. If SD gets on a roll and wins the series against us, you may as well call it a year.
We don't have enough, plain and simple. Krivsky's done an amazing job trying to pull needles out of the haystack. He's tried all he can do with what he's got, but its not enough yet, even in a completely terrible NL year. You rely on amazing years from career average players like Hatteberg, Ross, Phillips ... you knew they all weren't going to stay above .300 on the year and play that well. Arroyo wasn't going continue an amazing Cy Young type year. The fifth starter spot up for grabs wasn't going to hold up, and Lohse now isn't going to keep up career performances. There are too many career variables against us. Too many statistics working against us. We have an amazing close game record that has fallen back to earth. We have a NEGATIVE run differential! Whens the last time a team made the playoffs with a negative run differential??
When you have 5-6 players playing way above their career norms, you know its not going to last. We just had to hope that it could last one more freaking month, but right now it looks like the clock stuck midnight in LA literally, and Cinderella just got dropped.
Re: 8/29 Game Thread - Reds at Dodgers
I stayed up until 2:45 am but could not hang on. (got up at 6am for work)
To change our luck, I took a different route to work and parked in a different space.
For some stupid reason, no matter what happens tonight, I have a feeling we are going to SWEEP the Padres. The odds have to change for us.
Re: 8/29 Game Thread - Reds at Dodgers
I was there for the 12th. I can hardly see at work this morning. I'll try to nap before tonight's game. Damn, this losing is killing me. Let's win tonight. I need an day off as much as the Reds do.
Re: 8/29 Game Thread - Reds at Dodgers
I'm a timezone to the west of most of you and I fell asleep in the 9th inning of this one. I was shocked when I read that the game went on for 7 more innings. You should get a medal if you hung on for the bitter end of this marathon.

So where do I get my medal? I'm at work now, performing well below average.
Re: 8/29 Game Thread - Reds at Dodgers
SORRY but Homer doesn't knock the runs in for them. Just cause Homer pitches well he can't make the Team score runs.
Re: 8/29 Game Thread - Reds at Dodgers
I stayed up for the entire game, and let me tell you, it was a really sad first pitch by Franklin. I wasn't surprised or upset at all, as this is just how the Reds are playing right now. I blame the hitters for not putting a bat on the ball for 6 straight innings. This season is close to being over.

I know it has been rare but you have to give credit for the great innings of work by the bullpen. The Reds only needed 1 run in 8 innings and could not GET'R DONE.
