-
Re: 4/21 at Marlins, 7:35 EDT
yea I'm pretty pleased with the team so far... Offense was sporadic in the first few games(9 runs here, 1 run there) but it's getting more consistent(except for Pedro last night)

Re: 4/21 at Marlins, 7:35 EDT
Apparently, you have to be in a bad slump to bat 3rd and 4th in the Reds lineup. Our two best hitters are batting 5th and 6th.

Unreal, this lineup. I know everyone got his/her panties in a bunch about Boone's lineups, but this just takes it. I don't know whether to  or  .
I can see it now, no kidding: Kearns to a Moneyball team (Dodgers?) for an oft-injured, once-highly-thought-of minor league pitcher. DanO's take: "Well, considering Kearns's injury history, we thought it was worth taking a chance on pitching." As Kearns patrols leftfield next to Bradley and Drew, leaving the Dodgers with the best outfield ever assembled and the Reds with Edwin Jackson on the DL.

I'm heading out to Pro Player. Tell you about it later (much later).

Well, if Casey were any lower it sets up MORE chances of double plays ;)
I don't like the lineup, I want Casey on the bench for a few games and Kearns in.
If Case goes off tonight though this post was made by my evil twin ;)

Completely agree. I can't stand even the thought of one more ground ball to second double play off Casey's bat. They aren't even off to the second baseman's left or right a few feet. They are dead-eye directly at him.

Sean Casey has had Burnett's number in the past. In 15 at-bats against Burnett, Casey owns a .667 average with three RBIs.
Maybe... just maybe!

Re: 4/22 at Marlins, 7:35 EDT
Jimenez seems to hit Fla. pitching decent. I'm going out on a limb and saying he hits his first HR tonight.
-
Re: 4/22 at Marlins, 7:35 EDT
Hey Gents,
No comments on the lineup issue--this is a hard team to make a lineup for, IMHO--but I do have a related question: why is it that Kearns can be beaten out of his job but Jimenez can't be? We see that WMP has effectively displaced AK because of his hot bat; why doesn't that happen with Freel and Jimenez? Why the he's-our-man attitude for D'Angelo, especially when he's likely the worst in the starting 8?

Re: 4/22 at Marlins, 7:35 EDT
I don't like this lineup.
I'm also quite concerned about the developing weather situation in the area.
There are already Tornado Warnings in Indianapolis and Louisville and the storms are pushing toward the Cincy area. Everyone PLEASE listen for warning sirens if they are sounded, because this is a serious situation.

Who was it last year had a tornado around his house but got out of his basement to check the score?

If you are posting that here, why did you create a whole thread about it too? Just wondering's all...

My bust, didn't see that this was already posted.
What does weather towards indianapolis/cincy/louisville have to do with it? Are they not in FL?

Re: 4/22 at Marlins, 7:35 EDT
Freel/D-Lo
Using the Runs Created formula, we can guestamate how many runs it's cost the Reds playing Jiminez over Freel.
Currently, Freel and Jiminez have created 8.0 Runs (Freel 4.5, D-Lo 3.5).
If you multiply Freel's RC per TPA and multiply that by the number of Jiminez's TPA's you get 7.73 RC. If you do the same for Jiminez for Freel's TPA's you get 2.04 for a total of 9.77.
The Reds have lost just under two runs starting Jiminez over Freel. Over the course of the season, that's just under 22 runs the Reds would lose (based on current numbers of course).

The weather is important because I am hoping no one has any tragedies this evening.

Re: 4/22 at Marlins, 7:35 EDT
Exactly Kitty.
Also, a heads up.
Although no Tornado Warning has been issued for Boone County yet... I think I'm beginning to see a little rotation/"hook echo" on radar. A warning with that cell wouldn't surprise me at all.
Anyone in Franklin County, Indiana should also be on the lookout. That storm already has a history of producing a possible tornado further west.

I'm up in Butler County and it's thundering right now coming in from IN. So we don't keep hijacking the game thread - I'll make another thread about the weather...

Re: 4/22 at Marlins, 7:35 EDT
With the speed at the top of the Marlins lineup, I don't like it that Larue is not behind the plate. Is he ailing or just getting the day off? First game of a series against a speed team is not the time to be taking a day off.

Re: 4/22 at Marlins, 7:35 EDT
Interesting tidbit.
Although Harang has a higher ERA this season, he has more K's than Burnett does in fewer IP.
should be an interesting game.
