My team is looking good going into second half
This is for my work league, which I have won once in the past 6 years, and until last year had always placed in the top 3.
This year, for the first time all season I have taken over 1st place and have a 3 game lead. 10 team, head to head league. Categories are: R, H, HR, RBI, SB, BB, K, AVG, OPS for hitters and IP, W, L, SV, BB, K, ERA, WHIP for pitchers.
I just made another trade that I think will greatly increase my chances of taking home the championship.
C- I. Rodriguez
1B- T. Hafner
2B- M. Giles
3B- D. Wright
SS- M. Young
OF- V. Guerrero
OF- B. Abreu
OF- L. Berkman
UTIL- B. Giles
UTIL- A. Dunn
UTIL- Eric Chavez
DL - B. Bonds
SP- R. Johnson
SP- B. Sheets
SP- A. Burnett
SP- J. Vazquez
SP- J. Bonderman
SP- E. Bedard
RP- F. Rodriguez
RP- B. Ryan
RP- J. Isringhausen
I just traded OF Cliff Floyd and SP Carlos Zambrano for OF Bobby Abreu, a steal, IMO. I had Erik Bedard on the DL, but he is scheduled to come off the DL a week from today. I had to make room for him somehow, so I knew I had to trade a pitcher. I chose Zambrano because he's been a little inconsistent and he walks A LOT of hitters, but I knew he had "name value" from posting a low ERA last year. Floyd has been great for me this season, but I can't remember the last time he had a 500 AB season, so I felt he was a huge ??? for the second half. I wanted to pick up a player to help me in SB's. Abreu should do that, and I won't lose many HR, RBI, or OPS (which you would typically lose acquiring a "speedster"), and with Dunn, Abreu, and B. Giles I should completely dominate the BB category. I think my team is good to go for the rest of the year (barring injuries). What do you think?
Re: My team is looking good going into second half
I like your team. You shoudl have a good second half.
I finally pulled out of the cellar in the threadies league. I don't like head to head. It's too arbitrary IMO.
I'm second in WOY's league which is 8 team points league.
Re: My team is looking good going into second half
Read a report today that SS Nomar Garciaparra is only about 2-3 weeks away from returning. Would you drop anyone I currently have on my roster to pick him up?
A couple things worth noting:
1) We have no bench spots in our league, everyone is on the active roster.
2) When a player comes off the DL you have a week to activate them, or they are released as free agents.
I think offensively, I'm fine. I have an open DL spot, so I could pick up Garciaparra and hold onto him until a week after he is activated in case someone gets hurt on my team, but once that week is up, I'd either have to activate him or drop him again, or package him with someone in a trade.
Thoughts?

I think Michael Young will out produce Nomar and is a better chance to stay healthy, so I'd pass on Nomar. I had Nomar in the beginning of year in WOY's league and picked up Young when Nomar got hurt. Haven't be sorry, I had him last year too and he can hit.
Re: My team is looking good going into second half
Same thing with 2B Mark Loretta.
Same rules apply to him that do to Nomar.
Should I let him go as well.
Wow. I just realized if my middle infield completely sucked, I could pick up Loretta and Garciaparra and have a pretty sweet middle infield for the second half.

I had Loretta too. Dropped him when he got hurt. The problem with him is he doesn't slug and he has to hit .315 to OPS .800. Too risky IMO.
I'm playing Ricky Weeks right now.

Man, you've had a lot of bad luck with your middle infielders this year, pedro...
Thanks for your input.
