This is a good time to give Phillips a day off.
Wow. Stubbs in the lineup again. I guess three strike outs a game is the mark of a quality bat. LOL. I am kinda shocked that Valdez isn't in the 3-spot. Isn't that how it works?
Hanigan is swinging a hot stick. I would move him up behind Frazier.
I hope they get to Hamels this time out. He usually pitches tough against the Reds.
Hamels' nickname is "Hollywood". He is OPSing .559. Not bad for a pitcher.
Phillips hasn't hit Hamels well (33PA - .463 OPS), so yes it is. Of course, a ton of folks haven't hit Hamels well.
Ryan Ludwick does. (21PA - .992 OPS)
Migues Cairo does in limited action. (6PA - 1.200 OPS)
Jay Bruce does. (20PA - .800 OPS)
Everyone else struggles.
Once again Johnny Cueto gets a quality lineup behind him. He's shown he is up to the challenge.
Too bad Navarro apparently can't play 1B.
Or Ludwick or Heisey, for that matter.
Cairo really shouldn't be within sniffing distance of 1B.
Hope we win with Cueto going, Would hate to lose with him and lose a game to the Cardinals and then not have him to use vs St Louis. This is basically the Cardinals last stand for the Division and a we can't afford a 4 game skid here.
This lineup is not ideal but given that we're up 8 games in the division (St. Louis has now passed Pittsburgh) and can at worst split this series, I see what Dusty is doing. There was an article posted back a few days about how Dusty seems to have a sense of getting players rest at the right time and keeping everyone fresh, especially while the season is ending. Pretty sure he also has one of the best September records in baseball as a manager. I like our situation.
And considering who is on the mound for both teams, it smells like a low-scoring, one-run decision tonight.
Go Reds!
I'm having a feeling one of these pitchers is due for a bad outting. I sure hope it's Hamels! Cairo and Valdez in the same lineup, not good.
