Reds Organizational Depth Chart
I just thought this might be a nice resource since there has been a lot of movement down on the farm lately. If people want to help me update it, I'd appreciate it. I just guessed on the Billings and GCL rosters, which is pretty pointless, but it might come in handy.
I know the Reds signed Yuber Rodriguez as a 6-year minor league free agent a while back, but I haven't seen him pop up anywhere, so I'm wondering if he's already been released.
I also wish I could know what is going on with Mike Henry (pitcher from the 2007 draft), Ross Hopkins (catcher from the 2007 draft), and Matt Ogrodnik (undrafted free agent who went to school with Scott Gaffney).

Re: Reds Organizational Depth Chart
Where's Juan Duran at? Is he even playing yet?
EDIT: Scratch that, I looked over his name on the GCL roster. But how's he done thus far?

No, I don't think he's playing yet. I stuck him at GCL, though, even though it wouldn't surprise me to never see him on the field this year.

The GCL doesn't start for a few more weeks. I would be surprised if he gets more than 50 AB's this year. He is just so young.
Re: Reds Organizational Depth Chart
The GCL team will be one to watch if it comes together that way. The guys who interest me on that team of course start with Duran but doesn't come close to ending there.
Efrain Rodriguez
Peter Cech
Matteo Pizziconi
Tzu-Kai Chiu
Mariekson Gregarius
Yen-Wen Kuo
Do you think the language barrier could become an issue someday?

Re: Reds Organizational Depth Chart
Never mind. I googled him and found some information on him. I don't remember his signing being mentioned on here.
Per the news out of Taiwan, 18 year old shortstop Yen-Wen Kuo signed with the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds now have two Taiwanese players in Kuo & LHP Tzu-Kai Chiu. Kuo was profiled in a previous post. From the 2006 junior NT, Kuo is the fourth player signed by a ML organization, joining CH Chen, WW Lin, and CH Lin.*Updated
YW Kuo received a ~ $120,000 signing bonus. *Added 9/27/07*

The kid has game! Watching that video I was fairly impressed. Especially that 3rd defensive play where he faked to 1st and then went to 3rd to catch the kid off base, excellent awareness. Plus he seemed to have good size, speed, strength, stroke.

Maybe I'm misremembering, but I don't think Duran can play at GCL this year. I thought the whole signing was premised on his playing at Billings this year. Do I have it wrong?
It has to do with the date Duran turns 17. Since the Billings season ends after Duran turns 17, Reds could sign him up in the last international signing period. If I'm remembering correctly.

That was reported, but further review of the rules revealed that he may play on another roster.

I am so, so sorry to anyone who saw that. I hope no one was offended. I fixed it.

Question, lets say Duran is as talented as many think/hope that he is. What level could we expect him to produce at as a "normal" 16 year old vs 18-21+ year olds in the GCL?
I guess what I'm getting at, if Duran was talented enough, could he produce at a respectable enough level to get regular playing time with the GCL reds? Certainly it does nobody any good if Juan goes out and hits to the tune of 0.150 w/ a bunch of strikeouts while playing everyday, but what if he could hit .250+ while keeping the strikeouts w/n reason? Could a 16 year old possibley be talented enough, while also dealing w/ all the homesickness issues that one would expect from a kid that young, away from home for the first time to put up a respectable stat line?
I'm guessing the Red's plans are along Doug's thinking, and they won't rush him into too much, but could we hold out hope that Juan could force their hand by putting up solid numbers???

He just had to be on the roster at some point this year. He can play wherever they want to place him now. He never had to be on the roster during the season.
