The loss of Cozart in this lineup is meaningful. Despite his low batting average and OBP, he is a productive hitter which Valdez is not.
IMO part of the reason Heisey is in there is to avoid having Stubbs, Valdez, and a pitcher all in the lineup at one time.
Thankfully Cozart, even with an oblique strain, presumably will be back before too long (well before October baseball is what I mean).
Tonights Reds game is the mlb.com free game of the day.
Is Cozart alright?
Oblique (sp?) strain on Cozart - out till next week per Dusty.
Would really like to see Gregorious get more playing time if Cozart is out awhile, I think Valdez has shown us all what he is capable of.
My guess is Cozart will be out awhile. Oblique strains can take awhile and Dusty said next week as a best case scenario. Too bad, but Reds tend to be cautious and I think Zack will miss a few series.
Gregorius will get some chances, but I'm expecting Valdez to play short most of the time.
Paredes strikes out swinging.
Martinez doubles down the right field line.
Wallace strikes out swinging.
Maxwell singles to center. 1-0 Astros.
Castro flies out to left. 1-0 Astros mid 1st.
Interesting instinct by Heisey on the RBI single. Guy has been diving all over the outfield but that time he decided the blooper was a hit and didn't.
Seemed possibly catchable. Presumably one run isn't a huge deal here.
Maybe with more playing time, Chris has decided to save his body a little and use discretion in deciding whether to dive for the ball. Maybe he likes playing and doesn't want to leave on a stretcher.
