Dorn's got another year, IIRC
Yes, 2009 is Dorn's last year before he's eligible for the rule five draft.

IDK I think it's possible both of them could be at risk. Cumberland would be a decent 5th OF who can play all 3 spots and hit a little off the bench plus would be a solid pinch-runner. But I would leave him unprotected if it came down to him and Henry. Geronimo I'll have to take your word on as I haven't really seen him much but I would expect him to at least get some consideration due to his age and the fact he has looked pretty good so far. LeCure I agree with you on.
*Note* By age I meant his body is likely mature enough to handle being on a 25 man for a whole season.
Re: How much room would you create on the 40 man roster?
1. Gutierrez won't make it. I'm not even sure about Henry.
2. Manuel might be the new Carlos Guevara
3. Reds might surprise and name "Hammered in Hawaii" Valiquette.
Re: How much room would you create on the 40 man roster?
Shaun Cumberland and Tonys Gutierrez, among others, may leave as six-year minor league free agents if they're not added to the 40-man roster.
Re: How much room would you create on the 40 man roster?
I'd probably put these into categories.
Must protect: Fisher, Lecure, Maloney, Viola. [I think Lecure could be taken by a team like Texas. He could be their fifth starter next year.]
Very much like to protect: Manuel, Valiquette.
Would be good to protect but not by exposing someone more valuable: Gutierrez, Cumberland, Henry.

As soon as I seen his name on there I thought the same, he's definitely a w/c. He's a better bet to stick somewhere than Sergio Valenzuela but that ain't saying much.

I think Smit is in that boat as well.

I think Fisher and Maloney are absolute locks to be protected. Everyone else is gonna depend on what we can do to free up some 40 man spots. Right now 1-2 spots is really about all we have. And Walt doesn't seem to value these types nearly as much as Wayne did. Wayne would collect every guy with any remote talent and try his best to get the best out of them. Walt (and maybe it's experience) doesn't seem to waste time on them unless they are fairly complete. So my guess is he values his major leaguers more and thus we won't see many youngsters put on the 40 man. Walt's the kind of guy you can steal a Johan Santana from and Wayne would be the guy to steal him.

Isnt Yuber Rodriguez the 16 yr old kid they just signed??? Also I could see Krivsky really plucking a guy off that will hurt bad, Fisher, Maloney and Viola have to be protected IMO.

You're thinking of Yorman Rodriguez.
Re: How much room would you create on the 40 man roster?
I wasn't really sure where to put this, but the Reds have a mess of young players to decide on if they have any future in the organization or not.
Ryan Hanigan
Wilkin Castillo
Paul Janish
Danny Richar
Adam Rosales
Chris Dickerson
Homer Bailey
Danny Herrera
Nick Masset
Ramon Ramirez
Josh Roenicke
Daryl Thompson
All are young guys who saw playing time in 2008. Dickerson and Hanigan will most likely be on the opening day roster. Masset and Ramirez both made very good cases late in the year. Thompson and Bailey both have high upsides. Castillo can play a lot of positions. It will be interesting to see what the Reds do with that mass of players.

I agree with your assessments, only I'd add Roenicke to the list of locks for the Opening Day roster. I believe there's really only room for one (or maybe two) between the trio of Janish, Richar, and Rosales. Rosales is the worst fielder of the three, but arguably has the most upside with the stick.
