Very sad indeed. RIP
Just horrible.
We always laughed about Farney. I'm not laughing now about him.
RIP Ryan.
It seems to me these concussions are a factor. Very sad news. He was so young.
Just awful news. I always liked watching Freel play. RIP Ryan.

RIP Ryan Freel, and heartfelt condolences to his wife and children.
Ryan Freel is one of my favorite Reds of all-time. He truly was a grind-it out type who got every ounce out of his talent. My best friend's father also committed suicide this year, so Ryan's suicide has just compounded the confusion of how this can happen. I will continue to pray for Ryan's friends and family.
By the way, how amazing was his 2006 season. .271/.363/.399 while scoring off the charts defensively and well on the basepaths, according to fangraphs. He had a fWAR of 4.0 that year which was his best year after a 2.9 fWAR in 2004 and a 2.8 fWAR in 2005. Baseball reference actually has his 2004 as a better defensive year than 2006, so they have him at 3.6 in 2004, 2.4 in 2005 & 2.5 in 2006. Still a very good player for us either way you slice it during those three years. Ryan only made $2,025,000 in those three years. At least he made 8+ million more those next three years, so hopefully there is money left over for his family today to live on without him.
I talked to a friend, who had a friend that knew him and said Ryan was going through a divorce, so I assume (if accurate) that it played a major role in what happened.
A little late but ... RIP Ryan. Sad news to hear.
I, too, am a tad late to the posting part but heard the news when it first broke...
Just horrible news. Doesn't seem real.
