i thought calamari was just plain aweful tonight...ace wasn't too far behind...my third worse one would be the grey haired dude...
not sure what simon was thinking when he said that katheryn was the best tonight...i think she's overrated...
I thought they were all good except Kelly. She was pretty awful. I have really liked her so far and don't think she'll go home but she certainly didn't help herself at all.
I thought Ace did a good job, but I really like that song.
I thought Chris was the best and then Katherine close behind. But its pretty much like that every week since these two are clearly the best on the show.
I actually think in other years any one of this group may have won except for Ace.
Elliott Yamin will go home tomorrow night, thanks in part to Simon's comment that he was concerned about him. As Pickler was finishing up her song, I said to my wife "she butchered that!" Kellie then said the exact same thing about herself! It was pretty bad. I don't like her because I think she's phony, but I respect her being straight up about her performance tonight.
Pickler may very well make the bottom three tomorrow night, but I doubt it. Elliott and Ace will be there, but picking the third one is tough. I'm going to go with Paris.
Looking ahead, look for Ace and Paris to follow Elliott home in the next two weeks, leaving the four heavy hitters: Chris Creed, Taylor, Kellie, and Kathryn. I include Kellie among the "heavy hitters" only because Simon and AI have declared it to be so, not because she deserves to be there.
My two personal favorites at this point are Taylor and Kathryn.
When I heard the theme tonight I was incredibly excited. I absolutely love these old songs. It’s my kind of music and can really show off a singer’s vocal ability. It's the anti-modern day music. You actually have to be able to sing to pull these off. This is one of the better episodes in the show’s history. Most of the performances were really good. Kellie was the only bad performance tonight, IMO.
This is one of those weeks when I think the person leaving is obvious and tomorrow night will be a little anti-climactic. Elliott is a goner. He’s just a little too boring and while he can sing, that’s not enough at this stage. He's missing that like factor. It’s too bad, because he’s head and shoulders better than Ace. But Ace showed some competence tonight and that’s all it will take for him. The bar is so much lower for Ace than the other guys. It’s sad really. Elliott has to knock your socks off at this point to stay. Ace just has to sing in tune.
Chris - I’m on the fence tonight on his performance. On one hand, I thought it was boring and dull, but he sounded really good singing it. The judges seemed to like it!
Paris – Loved it. This is EXACTLY the kind of vocal performance I could listen to all day every day. She didn’t try to modernize the song and sounded great doing it. This is my favorite Paris performance to date, and perhaps my second favorite performance of the whole season (#1 would be Katherine’s “Since I fell For You”). I thought Paris was the best performance tonight. She sounded like she could have recorded this song back in the 40s. She was almost perfect. She reminded me a little of one of my all-time favorite singers who I listen to all the time - Keely Smith.
Taylor – This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I sang back up to a really good singer for this song in high school on several occasions and have been in love with this song ever since. Actually, I've told my wife before that if I were ever on this show, I'd try to find a way to sing "You Send Me." I love Taylor but did not like his rendition of this song at all. I didn’t like the arrangement more than I didn’t like his performance. This song works so much better as a slower bluesy feel song. I think he should be OK, but I didn’t care for Taylor tonight at all. Although, I DID like the ending.
Elliott – I appreciate that he’s trying to show a little personality and enthusiasm, but it did not look natural at all. Too cheesy and forced. The vocals were pretty good. Elliott can really sing, but I know I’ve said it on here before, he has to back on the vibrato. It’s WAY too much. Overall, his was one of those “let’s be boring for most of the song, then belt out the last 10 seconds at the top of my lungs” performances. I think he mightbe gone after tonight. It wasn’t bad, but it was very forgettable.
Kellie – She didn’t have the voice for this song. I didn’t care for her at all tonight, but I’m sure she’ll get more votes than anyone else because she’s Kellie. But she was bad tonight. Just flat out bad. Of course, I’m a little biased about this song. Marin Mazzie, an incredible Broadway star, sang this song for a concert I watch regularly on DVD. So she had a tough bar to hurdle. She didn’t even come close. I think I’m starting to agree with those who think the producers of the show are trying really hard to promote her. The judges are afraid to say anything bad about her. Last week she was horrendous and this week she was not good at all and all they could say was “not great.” She got ahead of the music, her voice was all over the place, and the accent DID NOT WORK for this song.
Ace – Actually sounded pretty good tonight. But he sounded really bad when he went into his falsetto. But he doesn’t have “great” in him. He sounded good, but that’s best I can say about it. But it was a bit boring and there was no challenge in singing this song. It was very safe, but not a bad strategy for him.
Katherine – This night was tailor made for her. I figured she would be the one to shine the brightest tonight. I was sure she would blow me away. Close, but not quite. She was REALLY REALLY good, but I wasn’t blown away like I thought I would be. And I love Gershwin and love and love this song. I’ve heard it thousands of times by various singers, so maybe that’s why it failed to “blow me away.” I actually like Paris better.
They didn't declare her to be a heavy hitter tonight. She was bad and no one went much out of their way to sugarcoat it. The shot of Simon pretending to fall asleep while she sang was priceless. It's like they were saying "OK, cupcakes, you've been good TV but we're getting serious now." I have a hard time believing she won't be bottom three, considering that Taylor and Chris have been ahead all along by most reckonings and Katharine is in no danger. There's only four others. I can see her somehow avoiding elimination by edging Elliott or Ace, but beating them both AND Paris? After that train wreck? The only people that are going to vote for her this week are the no-matter-whats and vote-for-the-worsts.Quote:

Yeah, it's getting to the tough part now. Everyone left is pretty good, but someone has to go.
As much as I hate to say it, Eliott, thanks to Simon's kiss of death, will probably go. I think he can sing better than Ace and Kellie, but he just doesn't have the looks that the other two do.
And it's also getting to the point where one bad performance can get you dumped. Although I think Kellie has too much of an installed base to get launched based on one week. But I wouldn't be surprised to see her in the bottom 3.
I'm glad Simon made the you talk like Minnie Mouse but sing like <someone good> to Paris. Her speaking parts have driven me nuts all season.
But Elliott and Ace are the next two to go (or maybe Eric Milton). Which leaves us with Chris, Paris, Kellie, Katherine, and Taylor. Although DialIdol.com has it different.
They'll probably start going to bottom two tonight. And I think you're all right when you say it'll be Elliot and Ace.
If it's three, I kinda think the third will be Kellie. Although, she's very good at getting the sympathy vote with the comments she makes after she sings. I think people look at her, even thought she sang poorly, and say "Awww...I feel sorry for her, and I like her, I'm going to vote for her because she's sooo cute and sooo nice."
Ace has got to go. I can't take "the look" for another week.
Overall, last night's show was probably my favorite one so far. For the most part, I thought it was a great and entertaining night.
Here is how I would rank the performances:
1. Katharine--she was phenominal. Probably her best performance so far.
2. Taylor--he's always fun and entertaining.
3. Paris--this genre was right up her alley. She nailed it.
4. Chris--surprisingly good with the song he chose.
5. Elliot--I don't know, dogg, it was just alright for me.
6. Ace--Below avg. IMO. I'm so ready for him to go.
7. Kellie--I like her okay. But her performance was not good...and very boring.
After some reflection, Kellie's probably in no danger of going home just because. That's why you do your best every week to win fans, so you'll have enough to get you through a rough week. But some of the bloom is off that rose permanently, I imagine. I'm no AI historian, but I don't think any of the winners (or even final two) had a week like that this late.
No, there's no way Kellie wins the whole thing.Quote:

My 9 year old just watched it this morning and she came up to me and said, "Ace was bad, and that pony tail was not working." She said it ina complete monotone voice that it was quite funny.
And my wife thnk's Ace has had plastic surgery on his face. I don't see it, but she swears she can.
Is it just me or did Ace look like an Atlantic City pit boss with the suit and the hair pulled back?
...which is just another reason I don't like her. I'm sorry I bash Pickler so much, but she does so many things to be irritating.Quote:

Well, I guess I was wrong. Ace going home didn't surprise anyone, but having Chris and Paris as the other two of the bottom three sure did. I hadn't realized it, but apparently Chris has been slipping for a few weeks now. And I way underestimated Pickler's voting base.
...and the odd thing it that I thought Chris did a better job last night than in any of the recent weeks. I guess his base wanted more Creed, huh?
Paris being there was no surprise, nor was Ace. I picked those two. But I was shocked that Elliott escaped while Chris was in the bottom three. Do you think that maybe Simon's comment to Elliott had the effect of mobilizing his voters to get on the phones?
I don't know how much of the voting is legit anyway. My kids tried to vote for Katharine for a half hour after the show and then an hour and a half later. Busy signal every time.
If the lines are busy all the time how much "real" voting is there? I mean, my kids didn't even get to vote for the person they wanted to vote for.
I'm not sure what to think about the whole voting thing.
If there's busy signal, that person is doing great. If you can get through, then that person is in trouble. There is software that can predict the outcome each week based on who is "busy" the most. If you can repeatedly get through, then no one is calling, hence less votes. It's legit.
I kinda feel bad for Ace. I ragged on him a lot, but he seems to be a nice guy. I just didn't think he was talented.
I also feel somewhat bad for Paris. She was probably the best performer this week and was likely the second from the bottom. Meanwhile, Pickler, who was horrendous and the worst of the week by a large margin, stil avoids even the bottom three. That kind of takes a little from the credibility of the show, IMO.
It's weird how quickly things change. When it was the top 24, everyone thought Paris was easily the front runner to win. Now she's likely to be gone next week, and no way she lasts more than two. In the beginning she was fun and her performances rocked. Then she sang "Wind Beneath My Wings." Someone as young and energetic as her needed to get votes from the younger people. But I think she really dug her grave with her Beyonce sexual gyration performance. Even though she did a good job, I think that performance lost her a lot of votes from the younger people and from anyone who thought she was "cute" or lovable. Right or wrong, I really believe that performance turned A LOT of people off. I know I looked at her completely differently after that, and not in a good way.
I like the talent level this year, but there's no one left that I really like a lot. I used to like Taylor a lot and still do to some degree, but it's been weeks since he's done anything I really liked that much. Katherine has mass talent, but she annoys the hell out of me. She seems very snooty. Elliott is good, but he's just missing something. Chris is fantastic, but I'm not a fan of his style of music. Pickler just isn't very good and her routine got old for me the second time I saw it. At this point, I really don't care who wins.
But I've lasted longer this season than the past two. I thought season 3 was WAY lame. I liked Latoya London, but I could have lived without just about all the others. Last year didn't do it for me either. Last year was the earliest I stopped watching. I wasn't a big Carrie fan, and of all the season, last year's was the obvious who was going to win.

It's a two-hour voting window. I have a feeling that the difference comes in the last 30-45 minutes, whose fan base keeps up the votes. Also the text messaging. (Someone on another board said Pickler's hometown had rigged something where people could text for free. Don't know about that, exactly.)
I tend to agree with the person who wrote that Kellie only finishing fourth in DialIdol in a week where her fans were in all-out Save Pickler! mode is not a great sign. They forgave her and rescued her, once, but may not be inclined to keep doing it if she doesn't pick it up. There are no more Aces left to sacrifice.
Maybe, but she had no problem with the others. That was also just one week. Normally she has no problem getting through for the people she's voting for.
Rather than start a new Idol thread this week, I'll just continue this one for the round of six...
Once again, Kellie was the worst of the bunch, and Taylor wasn't very good, either. The judges raved over Elliott and Chris, and didn't like the other four very much. I thought they were being a little too harsh to Katherine and Paris, and that each did fairly well.
Are they doing a "bottom three" again this week? If so, I'll go with Elliott, Paris, and Katherine, not because those three deserve it, but because that's how I think the votes will go. Based on performance, it should be Kellie, Taylor, and probably Elliott.
I really think that Elliott will go home this week.
And what about Paula Abdul? I have read speculation that she might be drinking in past weeks, based on her inability to assemble coherent sentences. But tonight she went off! Crying, standing up flailing her arms, just acting stranger than ever.
Paula was being very very weird. Definately on something.
As far as the performances go the best were Chris and Katherine in my opinion. I have no idea why they tore her apart so bad.
The worst I thought was Paris. Honestly I could barely listen to it I thought it was that bad. Started off too low and then she just oversang it so badly and was flat and ugh..awful.
Elliot was good but I didn't really like the song.
Taylor was ok.
Kelly chose a bad song. She will make it but badly badly needs to have a good performance next week.
And just a comment about the program in general. It seems like the producers or somebody just don't have it together. Ryan and the judges are constantly missing stuff and tripping over each other. It seems like they are taking the approach that they are a huge ratings giant and have gotten very lazy with the actual production of the show. Very poor at times.
Katherine was very good, (the best of the night in my opinion) and I really have no idea why they ripped her apart as they did, unless they are trying to get people to vote for her.
The show is getting really strange. The dynamic with the judges and Ryan Seacrest is starting to overwhelm everything else. Paula Abdul is not right. She definitely acts like she is abusing some substance.
back in the early 90's I had a thing for Paula. She was smokin' hot. Now I just think she's a kooky has-been :all_cohol . In the meantime, I've got a thing for Katharine. She's bad to the bone.
I, too, thought Katharine did great. But I think she could go home tonight. The reasons? 1. She went 1st...always a disadvantage, and 2. she got ripped by the judges.
Yes, Kellie should be the one going home. She hasn't done anything good for weeks and weeks. But I still content that she'll end up in the top 3 overall based on the "cuteness" factor.:barf:
I agreed with the judges about Chris. He was amazing last night.
Taylor was disappointing. When I heard which song he was going to sing, I thought he would bring the house down. But it turned out to be kinda boring.
I missed Paris' song due to a phone call.
I'm still amazed at the Judges' fascination with Elliot. He's alright...but not as good as they make him out to me, IMO.
And you guys are right about the show getting strange (and maybe lazy). Did you notice how after Katharine's song, Paula talked forever...the judges in general seemed to take more time talking about performances....until they got to Chris and then realized they were out of time...they were all like, "Itwasgreat, lovedit." Poor planning. And overall, one of the more boring episodes so far.
Yes, Paula had to be smoking something last night. Overall, not a very good episode.
I disagree with you guys on Katherine. I agreed with the judges, the song was too much for her and I thought she butchered it. But maybe I didn't listen closely enough as I was ....uh.... a little...uh..... distracted...... by other things while she was singing.
Kellie was awful and it will be a travesty is she sticks around again. I really think she might go this week.
If it isn't Kellie I gotta think it's Paris. She wasn't horrible, but you'd have thought she was 50 years old by that performance. I don't think it will appeal to many people.
Agree on Taylor, he wasn't very good either, but not terrible.
Elliott was really good. That guy can just flat out sing. I'm not a big fan of his style and don't think anyone would by a record of his, but if this is about singing he should be around a few more weeks.
Chris rocked last night. It was one of the better performances this season, IMO.
I think Paris will go. If not it will be Kellie.
According to the radio this morning, Paris is the most likely to go tonight based on the Vegas odds.
I think the bottom three is Paris, Katherine, and Elliott. Taylor and Kellie weren't very impressive to me and were certainly worse than Katherine. However, she went first and it wasn't her best performance. Kellie's fans will save her again this week and I think Paris will go.
I also thought Katherine did a great job with that song. I do not think that the standard of "you're no Whitney Houston" is quite fair. Judge her on whether or not she belted out the song, not whether or not she measures up to someone as great as Whitney Houston. I thought that she did a great job with a great song. No, she's not Whitney Houston, but then if a person trying to break into the industry has to measure up to the superstar that sung the song originally, they're all screwed.
Chris, I do not listen to much popular music these days, that was a great song, all I know it is by Bryan Adams according to McConnell on the radio this AM. What is the name of that song and when did he do it? But I agree, that was a memorable song and performance.
I'd vote off Kelly, that was pitiful, and from what I hear, that's two straight stinkers (I missed last week). Taylor stays because that is really the first time I've seen him not do well, although he did not completely butcher it, that was only average at best. I thought it rose about the level of hotel lounge karioke though. I think Simon has it in his contract to say that at least once per program.
Me too!Quote:

I found a statement made by this writer to be quite uniformed. I don't believe he's trying to be funny or sarcastic.
Isn't he aware that Bocelli is blind?Quote:
Andrea Bocelli, along with producer David Foster, mentored the Idols as they navigated their way through some of the sappiest love songs known to man. I understand that Bocelli is a big deal in the classical music world and all that, but couldn't he have at least pretended to be awake during the Idols rehearsals? He had his eyes closed most of the time!
I do have to admit though that I liked his comments about Kellie. :D
I read the column. He's just trying to be funny.Quote:

My sweetie said the judges have a history of killing people who try Whitney songs and don't measure up. Still, while it wasn't a great performance by Katharine, I thought the criticism was a little over the top, just like the praise the week before was probably too much. And like with Elliott the week before, the comments may have been tempered if they'd heard Pickler sing first.
