When do we stop all this nonsense?
How long will it take for people to finally feel good about this team?
After hearing all the talk about how pathetic our outfield is, or how bad our manager is, and even now how much of a joke our GM is, I've wondered when will it be enough? Why be a fan of a team if you enjoy talking about how much of a joke they are.
Do the Reds have to actually be in the playoffs in October for the crying to stop? Why can't their performance please fans who have been let down year after year? We are so close, yet fan support here makes me think people would rather the Reds miss the playoffs so they could find someone/something to complain about. I know I'm certainly enjoying this run, who knows how long it will last?
The Reds have just sold out a weekend series with the hottest team in the NL East, and all I read about is how Walt Jocketty doesn't care about improving his team. Perhaps he wants to build a team that will have sustained success over a long period of time? Silly thought I guess...
The Reds are in the thick of things in August and September callups are going to be huge for this team in getting a deeper bullpen and perhaps deeper bench. This organization has a lot of depth in the high minors that many others do not, it should be to our advantage during our weak part of the schedule.
This is the homestretch, you're doing yourself a disservice to complain about anything you can find to be remotely different from what you would like. Until this team steers far away from playoff contention they at least deserve the benefit of the doubt right?
Re: When do we stop all this nonsense?
Well, I said 2 years ago that eventually these boys would gel together and have a good club. We DO have a good club, and what everyone is frustrated over is the fact that a World Series banner could eventually be hanging in the OF that reads 2010, but it ISN'T going to happen with the team we have THIS year.
The frustration on my part is the fact that the GM should have made a move to acquire 1 more big bat for the lineup, IMO that would have put us over the hump and possibly given us the WS banner. When opportunity knocks (and it hasn't in Cincy for a long time now) you go after it, shame on the GM for not taking advantage of the postseason for the taking.
At what other point in history has the stars aligned for both Cincy clubs to make a run at their respective titles? Jocketty should have paid attention to what the Bengals did the other day and followed suite.
Re: When do we stop all this nonsense?
we have a great club.....but you will not hear me stop bashing Dusty until he does something to stop me from bashing him..lol....The guy deserves every last drop of hatred he gets....at the same time, if he gets this team deep into the playoffs(i.e., more than just a wc and 1st round exit) then he will get his due credit as well.
I see alot of great Reds fans on this site, just because they get on here and bash Dusty does not make them any less of a fan...in fact, some would say they are diehards. Some fans, and sometimes me included, see would could be if a few tweaks would just be made....and when you see that, you cant help but point out the obvious from time to time.....I mean, come on, its not like Dusty makes it hard for us to hammer him.

I didn't know we were all supposed to hold hands in here?
Can someone tell me where that line is because I would like to avoid it.
Re: When do we stop all this nonsense?
The team is playing well but all those shutout loses hurt. By the end of the year the team might well regret not getting another bat.
Re: When do we stop all this nonsense?
It would be an utter disappointment if we finish with a losing record, that is not acceptable. As long as we play winning baseball you probably won't hear me complain.

I was not aware that this was a rah-rah, drink the koolaid site!
;)
Re: When do we stop all this nonsense?
It's never going to go away. Dusty could win the World Series this year and some people are going to go nuts over him next year. Best learn now to discern who actually has a legitimate argument and who is just deranged and will complain at every turn regardless. That way you can put the latter on your ignore list, or just realize not to read their posts.

It's not - but it shouldn't doom and gloom and nit-pick every little thing they do or don't do either - which it seems to be.
It's not a perfect team, but it's far cry from what we've had.
Of course, if we had made a move, we would probably have umpteen threads about how stupid Walt was for letting this guy go and I can't believe we gave up that guy...etc.
Darned if you, darned if you don't.
Now back to the whining and moaning.

The main difference is that the doom-n-gloomers, almost without fail, are criticizing the team. Which, on a message board, would seem fair game. Their comments are seldom directed at other posters. The rebuttals are generally less often about how good the team actually is, but rather, are comments directed at the doom-n-gloomers, questioning their team allegiance, their baseball acumen and other things. In other words, they are often personal in nature.

By no means do I want it to be that. It just feels like some of what I'm seeing belongs at a Pirates message board. Our team isn't as "pathetic" as some people make it out to be.
I think Heisey needs more playing time as much as anyone else here, and I think Janish should see the light of day occasionally.
However, thinking that the sky is falling after a 1-0 Sunday loss or an inactive trade deadline is a little too much IMO.
Re: When do we stop all this nonsense?
Well making the move (Rolen) last year made the team this year! One more of those might just be what it takes!
