Nationwide manhunt.
What reason would they have to believe the phone call wasn't a prank? I'm sure they got tons of tips and similar leads like that one.

I'm basing this on the thought that Walt in on the top 10 most wanted list. I imagine a Fed was on the scene in less than 24 hours flashing pictures of haired and unhaired Walt to the bartender for a positive ID.

How quickly would a fed be able to make it to remote location in New Hampshire? Based on Ed's comments about how their house had become a tourist attraction, it appears as if the case has gotten tons of national attention. How many calls do you think the feds get on a daily basis thinking they saw WW? Or prank calls claiming to be WW?

Well he had just called Flynn. Maybe the principal immediately called it in and therefore they took Walt's call to the police more serious than they normally would have.
Re: Breaking Bad Season 4 Premiere Sun 10pm AMC (Spoilers!)
Vince Gilligan has released some details of Better Call Saul. Some interesting nuggets:
* Will be an hour long comedy-drama rather than a half hour comedy since they weren't comfortable with the ratio of jokes needed to fill a half hour (but will be far more light in tone than Breaking Bad)
* It will still take place in Albuquerque and will be a prequel
* They are going to try to work in as many of the same characters as possible, meaning you'll likely see Gus and (especially) Mike as fairly big players; Vince also dropped a bomb shell that Jesse and Walt might be worked in for cameos somehow (Jesse's connection to Emilio would make this easy for Aaron Paul to appear, but they'll have to get creative to find a way for Walt to be in a few scenes).

And this, my fellow Breaking Bad aficionados, is why you should be thankful that one among you reads makeup blogs.

Also, for those that missed it, Bob Odenkirk said last week in an interview that the writers are still considering a prequel-sequel combination for the new "Better Call Saul" spin-off.

Ok, I've got all 66 or whatever episodes on DVR right now. I'm through to about the 6th episode of season 2.
Love it so far. Easy to see why it was so popular.
Also, Skylar was kind of a *****.
