I followed Nascar 30-40 years ago. I was a big Petty and David Pearson fan.Quote:

I remember a story on a situation in a race once between Fireball Roberts and Fred Lorenzo. It was 1965-66. Lorenzo had been "drafting" Roberts and riding his tail all race, and it was peeing him off. There had been bumping and such going on the whole time. As they were coming down the final stretch, and with Lorenzo on his butt, Roberts, still mad as all get out, slammed on his brakes and Lorenzo's car ran into, and up and under FB's car. Both cars obviously crashed and were taken out of the race. It was obviously not a great way to get one's point across when one thinks about it. But it was funny. ;)

MLB: Reds. Duh.
NFL: Bengals
NCAA BB: Bearcats, Muskies, Hoosiers, in that order.
NCAA FB: ND (growing up Catholic does that, I guess. Can't be any other reason.)
And a new one-
NCAA Hockey: Hoosiers...I really don't know squat about hockey, but they play right up the street and I take my kid. It's great fun.
MLB: I was born a Reds fan. Since my earliest recollection I've loved them.
NFL: I was raised a Browns fan and still am.
NHL: Red Wings
College Football: Buckeyes and Volunteers (I was raised in Tennessee for 10 years)
College Basketball: The reigning Champion Tarheels!

NFL-Dolphins. see Reds above
MLB - Reds
NFL - Bengals
I got into the Reds and Bengals in the '70s living in Lima. My dad was a huge fan and couldn't get the games on the radio in the house, so he'd pack me up in the car and we would go on 2 hour drives around the county, listening to the games. By the time we moved to Northeast Ohio when I was 8, I was already hooked.
NBA - Don't really follow it, but I really enjoyed watching the Cavs of World B. Free when I was a kid. The Richfield Coliseum rocked!
NHL - Team USA. Didn't really grow up with Hockey on TV, so the only time I got to see it was during the Olympics.
College FB - Ohio State, MAC Teams
College Basketball - MAC Teams
I'm currently attending my third MAC school (Kent - undergrad, BGSU - Grad, Akron - Law). Kent is my favorite, but I always root the Ohio-based MAC schools to do well.
Soccer - Followed Casino (now Red Bull) Salzburg when I lived there in the '90s and hated AC Milan. I liked Bayern Munich as well.
MLB: Reds
NFL: Bengals
NHL: Detroit Red Wings (Dad is a big fan, trickled down)
NCAA: Miami University (Hate the question, "Yeah, but what about in the big games?")
NBA: Boston as of two weeks ago (Anybody Wally Z is playing for)
MLB: Reds... I live in Indiana, but somewhat close to Cincy
NFL: Bengals... ditto... Colts are my #2 team though
NHL: Worst. Sport. Ever.
NBA: Indiana Pacers... hometown team I guess
NCAA Basketball: Kentucky Wildcats, not sure how I started liking them really, but I always have. And I hate IU.
NCAA Football: West Virginia Mountaineers... I don't watch college football a whole lot, so I'm not that passionate about it, but I like their team.
Yet played by more people in more countries than baseball... go figure.Quote:
NHL: Worst. Sport. Ever.
MLB: Reds - Pete Rose was the first baseball player I knew as a kid, and Pete Rose=Cincinnati Reds
NFL: Bengals - Partly because they were the Ohio team in Super Bowl XVI, partly because of those oh-so-cool helmets
NBA: Hawks - Dominique Wilkins was the man!
NHL: Flyers - Just happened to win the first NHL game I saw on TV, so I went with it
NCAA: Ohio St./Syracuse/Toledo - Every good Ohio boy is a Buckeye fan! I honestly have no idea how I became a Syracuse fan as a kid, I just did. And I've lived in the Toledo area my whole life and graduated from UT, so that one makes sense.
Question for some people, how did you become a fan of one college in one sport but a different college in another? That just seems strange to me.
