Re: Skynyrd, Sabbath, Blondie among those to be inducted into Rock and Roll HOF
Discussions of who is and is not in the Rock and Roll HOF is equivalent to that of the Baseball HOF.
I don't understand their methodology, but they'll get it right eventually.

If the Rock and Roll HoF is in Cleveland, then why is this being held in Manhattan?
Re: Skynyrd, Sabbath, Blondie among those to be inducted into Rock and Roll HOF
As Ron House once said in a song...
"Bombs away...On the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame!"
It actually rhymes.

It's getting to the point now where any band who played before 1985 and whose music has been issued as a box-set is getting in. With that as the standard, it can't be too much longer until we see Hall and Oates, ELO, Yes, Van Halen, Devo, and Genesis in the Hall.
Maybe it's my own taste, but I think ELO, Yes and Devo would be a better choice for the Rock Hall than Bob Seger, Lynyrd Skynyrd, or many of the other "classic rock" bands.
Genesis died the day Phil Collins stepped behind the mike.
Here's a question. In a few years, REM will be up for nomination. Do they get in on their early HOF-worthy stats, or is their career "tainted" by their own "steroid" era, i.e. foisting "Shiny Happy People" and "Everybody Hurts" on an unsuspecting public?

Hey! Duran Duran will be eligible in a few years as well... think they'll ever get in???;)

I think they will remain, as the song says, hungry like the wolf. :p:
Re: Skynyrd, Sabbath, Blondie among those to be inducted into Rock and Roll HOF
For the mainstream categories, the winners seems to be either "important within their genre," or "have had two songs in 40 years of constant rotation on the FOX."
So that's a yes for Devo and Genesis, a maybe on Yes, and a no on Duran2.
Sorry, Kitty. :)
And of course, there are a few very PC choices. Which may provide a loophole, assuming Simon LeBon wants to make a "big announcement." ;)
:)

I am not a big-time museum type and I have never been called a tightwad, but... the R-n-R Hall of Fame is one of the most overpriced things I have ever done (and I have done it twice). The first time I went to visit it I was really excited. I remember the feeling as I left after that 1st visit... what a waste of money and a disappointment. Don't get me wrong, there was some cool stuff to be seen, but the price for the experience is a Hall-of-Fame ripoff.
My advice to 1st timers... just go into the gift shop (no charge to get in there) and buy a t-shirt or some other memento.

I've been there twice too, on my employer's nickel. I was also underwhelmed. It might have been because there were few bands represented that I really felt strongly about. Maybe in another decade I'd get more out of it...

I've only been there once (in 2001) - 3.5 hours waiting for my room to be available for a stay watching the Reds vs the Indians. I thought it was great! They had two special sections dedicated to the Beatles. One was about Stuart Stutcliffe showing all his work as an artist, many of it from his time in Germany before his death. The other exhibit was on John Lennon occupying the "tower" - three levels of writings, artifacts, etc. I went to the gift shop and purchased a umbrella, writing pen in the shape of a drumstick and a t-shirt - which I still have. I've been trying to get back ever since but haven't found the time plus I want to dedicate the same amount of time going thru the exhibits.

Anyone know how the HOF compares to the Experience Music Project in Seattle? I've been to the EMP, but not the HOF.
