The Reds now have an assistant pitching and hitting coach. I wonder if other teams are doing this or if it is a Reds thing? Either way, I like it.

A lot of teams are doing the assistant hitting coach. Not sure about the other.

I tweeted out the same thoughts as I posted earlier and C Trent sent back this link from a writer from this summer on teams and multiple hitting coaches:

This would've gotten rep points. The West Wing, my favorite show.

I think its a good idea. Two sets of eyes and two different personalities. Every coach doesn't relate to every player.
Re: Ronnie Ortegon named Reds asst. hitting coach...
Bengie Molina was named Cardinals' assistant hitting coach.
Re: Ronnie Ortegon named Reds asst. hitting coach...
It worked for the pitching staff last season with mack Jenkins. Maybe it works its magic on the lineup this year. I like the idea. It gives the guys more than one voice.
Re: Ronnie Ortegon named Reds asst. hitting coach...
Makes me wonder if Ortegon doesn't bring some expertise to the table similar to Jenkins, who is apparently an artist at video breakdown.
Of course, Castellini did this against the advice of Mike Brown, who simply said "are you going to pay him? Then no, bad idea."
Re: Ronnie Ortegon named Reds asst. hitting coach...
Obviously this hire is to help Votto. Votto needs help with his hitting. ;)

I would have negged you for talking about rep points, but then it would just be a vicious circle of who gives up last.
Good move to hire another assistant hitting coach though. 12, 13, 14 guys all need work in different ways at different times and another set of eyes is always a good thing.
Re: Ronnie Ortegon named Reds asst. hitting coach...
Another hire from within the system, too. He should be familiar with the younger guys. Maybe he can help get Heisey back on track and help Frazier, Cozart develop.

Is that something that's not supposed to be discussed? If so, I'm unaware of it.
