Dodgers closing in on $6 billion TV deal with Fox
Quote:
Over the next 25 years, Fox is going to pay the Los Angeles Dodgers somewhere between $6 billion and $7 billion to televise its regular-season games, barring a last-minute snafu in negotiations, according to Deadline.com.
Quote:
When the deal closes, the Dodgers will make more money from local TV alone than 26 franchises take in from all of their revenue streams. Only the Yankees, Red Sox and Cubs do better, according to Forbes' annual franchise valuations, though they'll soon be joined by the Angels, Rangers and Phillies. The first two have their own $3 billion TV deals; the Phillies are set to cash in on their own that will keep them in the sport's top stratum.

And this is why baseball will never again come close to competing with the NFL as america's #1 sport.
Sad. So sad.
Re: Dodgers closing in on $6 billion TV deal with Fox
Major League Baseball is the one that has to put its foot down at some point and realize that what is happening is overall bad for the sport. Thats what Roger Goodell does because he doesn't let be like Jerry jones tell him what to do like Selig lets the steinbrenners and other huge ownership groups.
It won't be long before MLB starts to strongly resemble the European Soccer leagues where there are only 4 or 5 relevant teams in the leagues.
Re: Dodgers closing in on $6 billion TV deal with Fox
The Dodgers have been linked to Grienke, Sanchez and other SP this off season but has anyone looked at thier roster for SP?
Kershaw
Beckett
Billingsley
Lilly
Harang
Capuano
All of these guys are signed through 2014+ and they are still going after a Greinke or Sanchez. They are ridiculous.
Re: Dodgers closing in on $6 billion TV deal with Fox
Its going to hurt us when the Cards cash in on theirs in a few years since they already spend the most in the division currently.
