Ludwick out - The batting order going forward?
I don't think the panic button should be pushed. And until we know how long Ludwick will be out, I think they should keep everyone else in their current batting order positions. I'd stick Heisey at cleanup in place of Ludwick. Possibly rotating he and Bruce in the cleanup spot vs. lefties and righties.
I know it's popular to want to move BP down to cleanup, but then who bats 2nd? I'd rather keep the order basically the same to allow the rest of them to grow into their roles.
What say you?

It sounds like it's gonna be a good long while at the very least. I'm not sure it's a panic button, but I think we've gotta create a whole new sans-ludwick plan. Continuity went out the door yesterday.
Re: Ludwick out - The batting order going forward?
If Heisey is going to be the everyday LF, I'd have him down in the batting order at #7 or #8. He makes too many outs to occupy the top of the lineup.
Re: Ludwick out - The batting order going forward?
Knowing Dusty, I think we all know what the line up will look like now..
Choo
Cozart
Votto
Phillips
Bruce
Frazier
Heisey
Hanigan
I think Frazier and even Mesoraco could handle the # 4 spot, but that'll never happen. Walt has said, he projects Mes to be a future number 4, so maybe now's the time, but doubt Baker allows that.
I think Derrick Robinson gets the call, should be interesting. Ludwick should be back after the All-Star break, so we must stay afloat till he returns. NO TRADES and NO Billy Hamilton right now.
Re: Ludwick out - The batting order going forward?
Slide bruce and fraizer up to 4 and 5. Slot Heisey/Paul at 6.
Re: Ludwick out - The batting order going forward?
I am sure Phillips will be cleanup with a rotation of Cozart, Heisey, and Paul batting second.

I posted that lineup during the game thread.
I hate that lineup. Other than Choo and Votto, and probably Hanigan, everyone else are a bunch of free swingers that don't know what a single is for the most part unless they luck into one. They all swing for the fences and end up striking out most of the time. :p
Re: Ludwick out - The batting order going forward?
Here's what I would do:
Choo
Bruce
Votto
Frazier
Phillips
Heisey
Catchers
Cozart
What I think Dusty will do:
Choo
Cozart
Votto
Phillips
Bruce
Frazier
Heisey
Catchers
I like mine more, but I don't hate Dusty's
Re: Ludwick out - The batting order going forward?
Choo
Votto
Phillips
Bruce
Frazier
Hanigan
Paulsey
Cozart
*bottom 3 are interchageable
I know there's no chance of that lineup happening with Dusty, however, I think it'd be interesting to see. Just think how many times Brandon and Jay would come up with more than one guy on base. Think how many times the Reds would score in the first inning to take the lead. Also, Votto would get a few more at-bats throughout the season, and he would probably be intentionally walked less.
Re: Ludwick out - The batting order going forward?
Assuming Phillips is moved to #4, here's my lineup.
Choo
Heisey/Paul
Votto
Phillips
Bruce
Frazier
Hanigan/Mesoraco
Cozart
pitcher
I put Heisey/Paul batting 2nd, as I believe (and hope) they will have a higher OBP than Cozart will. Same reason for moving catcher up to 7th. If Bruce struggles, I wouldn't hesitate to flip flop him and Frazier in the lineup.
Re: Ludwick out - The batting order going forward?
What our lineup SHOULD be w/out Ludwick IMO
vs RHP
1.Choo
2.Phillips
3.Votto
4.Bruce
5.Frazier
6.Paul
7.Cozart
8.Hannigan
v LHP
1.Choo
2.Phillips
3.Votto
4.Frazier
5.Bruce
6.Heisey
7.Cozart
8.Hannigan
(I would probably switch BP and Frazier if Todd got cold w/ RISP) (The Bottom 3 should somewhat interchangeable depending on who is hot and who is not IMO)

This.
Re: Ludwick out - The batting order going forward?
I'd probably hit Cozart for now. He was great there last year.

If you can't keep an OBP above .300, there's no way you should ever hit anyplace other than 8th.
Re: Ludwick out - The batting order going forward?
The Reds seem committed to hitting Cozart seventh. They understand the top of the order was a disaster last year.
Jocketty has also said the Reds are committed to Choo in CF.
I think they will begin with Heisey hitting second, which is fine with me. His speed will avoid DPs, and he does have potential to get hot, which he does some times.
Heisey is an overly aggressive swinger, I've been critical of him in the past, but I think he fits the second spot well if he has a good stretch.
The one benefit of Ludwick's unfortunate injury is that it may get Phillips out of the two hole. He may seem like a number two hitter, but he is not.
