NFL to have same regular season OT rules as playoffs
Re: NFL to have same regular season OT rules as playoffs
I give it a "meh". I still think OT should allow both teams a possession. These new OT rules didn't change anything in Denver's win over Pittsburgh. My OT rules would have required Denver to kickoff to the Steelers after Tebow's long TD pass. And if the Steelers scored a TD as well then it becomes sudden death. Next team to score wins.

I'd rather see the teams do a full game replay FA Cup style later in the week. Don't want to play another game? Go for the win. OK, I'm kidding. Sort of.

I know television and health concerns play into the equation. But why dont they just play a 7-10 minute OT period?

I kinda like the way it is now. I actually like college's style better because it creates more excitement. I do think that once OT gets going the teams are both so tired that it usually is decided by a big time mistake. You play a guaranteed 10 minutes it may be 10 poorly played minutes.

I think they're making it overly complicated. It should be:
- first team to 6 points wins
- overtime period is 15 minutes
- finish tied, game is tied
- finish with one team leading, that team wins

That makes too much sense, the Rules Committee would never go for it.
