Advice on dealing with an inept boss.
My company recently did a reorg and I ended up with a very unorganized, borderline inept manager. After 2 short weeks I have already had it with this guy, any advice on how to deal with him? I am a sales rep who rarely see's him but has interaction with him via phone. I think I am going to deal with him by not dealing with him. Is that a good course of action?
Re: Advice on dealing with an inept boss.
I can't imagine avoidance with a superior is going to be a good strategy.
Whatever their weakness is I'd try to help them with when possible. Make their job easier whenever and however you can. Deflect all credit you receive to your boss for your excellent performance, and do it genuinely. Do all this and you won't have to deal with them for very long.
This is not the most palatable advice probably, but I think in 99 out of 100 situations it gets you ahead the quickest.

Yep. Spot on.
I always manage "up". Like redsfaithful, I make sure I make my boss look good and I never put him in a bad spot (I figure he/she will see what I'm doing and reciprocate). Even if he's inept, you want to stay on his good side.
