Which minor leaguer would get the call up if the Reds had a starting pitcher injured?
The Reds starting pitching has been a thing of amazement this season, not missing any starts. Almost unfathomable considering what we're used to seeing. In fact, Walt stocked up with Francis and Tomko, just for that reason. Fortunately, they haven't needed to do it. But if they did, who would they go to?
The list of candidates would include Chapman, Hoover, Lecure, Cingrani......
I think they'd give Cingrani the chance if the opportunity arises. Dude has passed all the tests so far. Not saying he won't run into a brick wall at some point. But I think it would be interesting to see Cingrani get the major league call if a starter goes down.
What do you think? And again, this is simply for some fun conversation.

There's less than a 0.1% chance Cingrani gets a call-up this year.

Dan Corcino would get called up before Cingrani.

Look at the 40-man to make the call. Since Cingrani's not there, he won't hit the Queen City.
I'd guess Hoover would be stretched out, or Lotzkar or Villareal would come up.

Yeah, I had a brain cramp and thought Cingrani was at Louisville. Forgot he's in Pensacola. I hope he makes it to Louisville this year.

Wouldn't this automatically be Pedro Villareal?

This is spot on, except I think Hoover goes to the pen and Lecure gets stretched out. Villareal is probably the next option, though.

Depends on who got injured and how long they were expected to be out. In some cases it simply goes to the guy who is lined up with the pitcher who went down (either in AAA or AA depending on 40 man roster options and such). Ideally though I think the Reds would prefer to go with Villarreal first, Corcino second and Lotzkar 3rd.
Re: Which minor leaguer would get the call up if the Reds had a starting pitcher inju
What Doug said. Villarreal gets the first shot simply because he is on the 40-man roster. If it's just a one or two spot start, Chad Reinke or Brett Tomko would probably get called up before Corcino or Cingrani simply so they wouldn't waste an option year sending them down. (Corcino will have to be put on in the off-season, Cingrani not for three off-seasons.)

I'd think Villareal. First he's on the 40 man. Second he's been unspectacularly solid all year. Good enough to deserve that shot if it happens.

Still depends on the rotations. If Todd pitched the day before and something comes up, then someone else is going to get the call.

Redmond, Villareal and Hoover at AAA - they're getting a fair little staff together now.
