Hot Day at the Old Ballpark
In the spirit of a good ole fashioned Cincinnati summer day with high heat and humidity I pose this question....
What is the hotest and most miserable game & stadium you've ever been too?
Mine is a mid August night game at Riverfront in the early/mid 1980's. We were sitting in my neighbors seats in the blue section, along the 1B line, under the overhang. It was a typical Cincinnati August night. Still in the 80's at 7:35pm with super high humidity. I swear I never once felt a breeze inside Riverfront and there was less than no breeze that night. It was stiffleing to say the least and I was drenched in sweat from just sitting there. I don't know how the players didn't pass out on the astroturf in those double-knit unis.
Re: Hot Day at the Old Ballpark
It wasn't a hot day but on fathers day 2003, the Reds game rained out. That was a miserable day!!
The wife did buy me a Marty And Joe bobble head though. :)
Re: Hot Day at the Old Ballpark
I thought I was going to melt at a Missouri footbal game late last summer. Very hot! All I wanted to do was go back outside to the talegait area. I could've cared less about the game and it was hot as hell.
But the hottest I've ever been was when I played 36 holes in one day for the U.S. Amateur qualifier at Terrace Park golf course, in Cincinnati. Date: Early August. If you've ever been there, you know it sits by a river and the air doesn't move at all there. Stupid hot! The temp. was in the mid to upper 90's and the humidity had to be about the same. 11 hours of that. It was amazing no one got heat exhaustion that day. I remember eating a huge lunch that day and drinking approximately 10 bottles of water each round and STILL lost 10 pounds that day. Ridiculous.
Re: Hot Day at the Old Ballpark
Believe it or not, Buffalo Bills, Sept. 9, 2001.
Re: Hot Day at the Old Ballpark
Some of the days at Riverfront when there was Astroturf and we had good seats...we would just bake.
Re: Hot Day at the Old Ballpark
Granted GABP gets more breezes than Riverfront, but GABP can still be plenty hot. Sitting in the sun last year along the third baseline during an afternoon game in the mid-90's I nudged my sister and told her to put down as the cause of death on my Death Certificate simply "Melted." :)
Re: Hot Day at the Old Ballpark
I went to a game at Tiger Stadium in the bicentennial summer--I was 10, and having drunk a big slushy, I vomited all over the concourse on the 3rd base side.
Re: Hot Day at the Old Ballpark
I still brag about going to Reds games in August. It's either a badge of honor or a badge of pure idiocy.

We used to part on the TP Golf Course, drove our cars to the point... picture Dazed and Confused and you're there.
Hottest at a Ball Park for me was 105 in San Francisco against the Reds in 2001, just brutal.
Once I was in Vegas and it was 112 with a 20 mile an hour wind that was pretty hot.... 100 degrees and 90% humidity on the 4th of July at a Dead show in Bonner Springs Kansas is easily the most disgusting hot I've had to deal with.

Anybody sit in those bleacher seats in left feild at GABP? Those look like they would be miserable as the sun is just baking them away. And then you get to look into the setting sun for the first few innings.
Re: Hot Day at the Old Ballpark
My first trip to Tiger Stadium. Detroit had swept first 4 games of a rare 5 game series and it seemed that the Sox were in danger of losing control of the AL East. Bruce Hurst prevented that. Sox ended up winning the division by one game that year.
We had seats in the 1st row of the RF lower level, in the sun, but still with the roof over you for that added oven feel. It may not have been the hottest day ever, but for a 12 year old kid, it sure seemed like it.

Re: Hot Day at the Old Ballpark
I saw a few games in the mid 90's with very high humidity in Arlington, Texas.
It was brutal.

Last summer, some friends of mine with two kids sat there in the heat. They ended up going to the Machine Room.
Re: Hot Day at the Old Ballpark
Went to a night game in 1988 where the daytime high had been 102 at Riverfront. Field temperature was 135 at game time and we were just 4 rows up.
When a breeze blew off the field, it felt like when you first open the door on a hot oven. Just this bubble of super-heated air.
One of the few games I've ever left early (and I never leave games early). It was awful.
Re: Hot Day at the Old Ballpark
Sitting close to the field of Riverfront in late summer, I always had the vision of sitting inside of a large wok...I sometimes needed a spatula to get up from my seat too. :D
