Should Puig be an all-star candidate?
A few of us were discussing this at work today. Is there a specific number of games a player has to have played in order to be eligible for selection to the all-star game? If not, is tearing up the league for 5 of 6 weeks enough to get him a spot on the team?
Re: Should Puig be an all-star candidate?
There's no set criteria as to eligibility. But IMHO, you should have played in a majority of the season to have earned an all-star bid since the sample is only three months as is.
Re: Should Puig be an all-star candidate?
No.
But the problem is the All-Star game is in the middle of the season. So what's actually being played is the 1st-Half all-star game. I think MLB should set an AB standard.

And that you can start voting in April. And that the ballots are printed before the season begins, so an injury in the spring leading to a guy starting 90 games before the AS Game leaves him off of the ballot and no chance to be voted in even if he hits .400/.500/.600. Of course he would be chosen if he did that, but there is no way he would be voted in.
Re: Should Puig be an all-star candidate?
Sure.... he should be a write in candidate, otherwise tough luck
Re: Should Puig be an all-star candidate?
Well, the Dodgers do need a representative. ;)
Re: Should Puig be an all-star candidate?
No. Would like to see him in it, but you have to play more games than he has.

What's the All-Star game?

I'm assuming Kershaw gets the automatic selection. If not for him, Puig would be the pick?

I know. It was a joke.
It's a tough call. He's obviously playing like an All Star but it's such a small sample size. I don't know. Maybe you ride the hot hand and use him as a pinch hitter.
Re: Should Puig be an all-star candidate?
Is the NL trying to win a game? If so, heck yes he should be.
Re: Should Puig be an all-star candidate?
As a fan of a team that has a legit shot @ the World Series, I want him in that game.
As a baseball fan, imo, he hasn't played enough to earn it. Sick month, though, to start a career!
Re: Should Puig be an all-star candidate?
The game is so silly to begin with, I don't know why he should be penalized for not having played in enough games. The "every team needs a representative" rule is a joke, and makes a mockery of the game. Puig is an impact talent, an exciting guy to watch, and he should absolutely be a part of an exhibition game.
Re: Should Puig be an all-star candidate?
If we are doing it hte way Bud wants it done, he should be included if he gives the NL a better chance of winning than whoever's spot he takes...
Re: Should Puig be an all-star candidate?
Had the same conversation last season with Bryce Harper. Puig has been in the league less time than Harper. I wouldn't name him to the team. I just think you should have been in the big leagues for at least a half season. He should get plenty more chances and if he doesn't then he probbaly didn't deserve a place anyway.
