Anybody been in an auction style draft?
I just entered a long running auction style draft league and was wondering if anybody had any pointers, here is how the format works. The top 30 players overall are decided on from various websites and mags and then posted to the league site. These are the players up for auction. Each draftee gets 100 dollars to bid on these thirty players. For an example I believe LT went for like 67 dollars last year and some of the bottom 30 went for around 10 dollars. After the auction is over the draftee with the most money gets selection 31 and then a snake draft begins. My question is do you go for the big money players, or is it better to try to get some mid range guys in order to get a good spot in the snake draft. I would appreciate any ideas or wisdow from anyone who has done one of these. Thanks in advance.

been in auction league for many years. Just make sure you budget your money (cap) accordingly. If you really want a player go for it, but make sure you don't kill your budget in the process. For example, one league i was in yrs ago we had a 10.00 budget (easy for tracking during the draft) everyone put in 100 but anyway, my friend bid 5 dollars (half his cap) on Barry Sanders....needless to say he didn't win that year.
