Re: 7/17/2012 Reds vs Snakes
So Bruce plays vs the lefty and sits vs the righty? What?
And Ludwick, who kills lefties, sits vs the lefty and plays vs. the right.
Re: 7/17/2012 Reds vs Snakes
Dusty is just proving his point to Walt. This roster blows chunks.
Of course, they probably go out and score a dozen tonight. This Bauer guy should get rocked, considering his horrible splits against lefties...oh, wait.
Re: 7/17/2012 Reds vs Snakes
This might be another scheduled day off for Bruce. Then find out he broke his leg last night.

Yeah, seems pretty odd. Guessing that Votto and Bruce were scheduled for off days on Monday and Tuesday post-all star game. Dusty wasn't resting them against division rival Cards this past weekend.
Reds face a lefty on Thursday afternoon, would seem like a better time to rest Bruce. Although Jay is hitting like he needs a month off, not a day.
This relief pitcher Brad Ziegler for DBacks had better be ready. He is a righty sidewinder who is murder on righty hitters. Guy could pitch 15 innings this week against the Rightyreds.
Re: 7/17/2012 Reds vs Snakes
Why wouldn't you have just sat Bruce last night and played Ludwick?

Probably because yesterday was Votto's turn to get a night off, scheduled before the knee surgery thing.
So if both are healthy he wants Votto or Bruce in the lineup. Doesn't rest his two all stars at the same time. (Now it's a bit different with Votto out for several weeks.)
I do agree though that I was very surprised Ludwick didn't start last night. I was surprised Heisey played.
Re: 7/17/2012 Reds vs Snakes
And the day has finally arrived. Zero lefty's in the lineup against a RHP.

Very small sample, only a few innings, but this Bauer pitcher tonight was tattooed by lefty hitting so far. 8.64 ERA against them (however one figures out an ERA against lefties alone).
No great shakes against righties either, 1.60 WHIP, but no earned runs allowed against them.
Very small sample at the big league level.
Was pretty dominant in the minors in 2011 (116 Ks in 93 innings) and did well at AA this year, then was 4-0 in AAA with a 2.82 ERA before call up to Arizona.
Lifetime minor league strikeout rate of 12.1 with 4.6 BB/9.
Guy misses bats. At least in the minors.

Rolen hitting in front of Frazier, heh?

I would say that's the least of our problems with no lefties and our no OBP tablesetters.

I was wondering that too. How do you figure an ERA against only lefties or righties?

Or he's confirming in Walt's mind what he may have already suspected re: Dusty's ability to construct a lineup.
