Re: Egg on your face trades
I can't remember a trade that I thought wasn't going to work out and I was surprised it did. I must say I'm surprised at how much the WMP-Arroyo trade has benefitted us.
Re: Egg on your face trades
Not a trade, but a free agent siging.
I thought Rick Mahler was leading this team to the promised land.
oops.
Re: Egg on your face trades
Well I'm kind of optimistic so my mistakes are usually the other way. Like getting Jr., at the time I thought getting him meant that the Reds were going to be contenders for years to come. And most of my friends are Cubs' fans, so I talked a lot of trash and obviously I've gotten a lot back. I still like Jr. though and hopefully he can help carry us the rest of the way this year.
Re: Egg on your face trades
So far the Loshe trade has looked good while I thought Krivs had lost his mind. The Arroyo trade also didn't appeal to me but I appear to be wrong on it as well. Trades that I was right about....Oh well that is for another thread.
Re: Egg on your face trades
None ... that I care to remember anyway.;)

Another free agent signing that I was particularly excited about was Dante Bichette. I suck.

Actually Dante Bichette wasnt a free agent, he was aquired from the Rockies for Jeffry Hammonds and Stan Belinda. Clearly the trade I thought would get the Reds over the hump was the Griffey trade. I remember reading the 2000 Reds preview in the DDN and being shocked that Hal Mccoy picked the Reds to win the division!
Re: Egg on your face trades
I loved the Griffey trade.
I also wasn't against the O'Neill - Kelly trade. The Reds were platooning O'Neill, and he wasn't really hitting lefties well when he did play against them. He really took off late in his career, though. Didn't see that one coming.

Jeesh. How quickly I forget. I really do suck.
And actually, looking at Bichette in his time here, he wasn't awful, but I think he gave us all a good lesson in "Coors Field."
Re: Egg on your face trades
I thought Ryan Dempster was the young ace the Reds needed to anchor the rotation for years to come.

Yea me too! I remember Redszone went nuts with happiness and somebody said that we can now sit back and enjoy our first real ace since Jose Rijo. Haha, oh the memories!

So who are you really?
Re: Egg on your face trades
That first game Randy Keisler played in I think he pitched lights out, had a key hit (maybe a homer) and maybe even made some razle-dazle defensive play. I remember one head-line being "Randy is Dandy" the next day.
I didn't really know much about the guy so I instantly formed the opionion that he was a savior for the Reds and would be around for a while.

Ryan and I have always been Reds fans, even when we were with the Jays.
