I felt the acting was good, but the story was pretty weak. It wasn't very original, and the record breaking 45 minutes of characters making out on screen got old pretty fast for me.
Re: Official RedsZone Movie Thread (pt. III)
All the Boys Love Mandy Lane wins the filmed before release category easily...
Stars Amber Heard looking smoking as usual... teen slasher with a twist type film...
Made in 2007, released this year.

Watched what I think is probably the blackest black comedy I've ever seen (and I've seen most of them) last night... "Excision."
I quite enjoyed it, but man... it is BLACK.
Seek it out if you're into that sort of movie and aren't squeamish.

May I ask what you didn't like about Upstream Color, BC?

It was a surreal experience but I wasn't high when I watched it. Like Spring Breakers, I think that's about the only way I would love that movie. I like at least some semblance of a narrative in my flicks, even ones focused on characters and aesthetics, and just as every reviewer I read admitted, nobody had any idea what was going on in Upstream Color.
It's the same reason I didn't care for Mulholland Drive and haven't pursued David Lynch films any further...

I felt like I was watching some Goodfellas, with a little Casino thrown in.....and lo and behold...there's DeNiro doing a mobster! for kicks.
I liked it, but it was not more than just a good movie. At least they did not go over the top with 70's fashion.

Good description. The performances were outstanding. Even the secondary players like Jeremy Renner and Elisabeth Röhm were terrific.
Re: Official RedsZone Movie Thread (pt. III)
"All is Lost" with Robert Redford playing a role with almost no speaking lines whatsoever... a man's attempt to survive after his sailboat is damaged in the middle of the ocean.
Really enjoyed it, Redford can still carry a film.
Re: Official RedsZone Movie Thread (pt. III)
Just watched The Last Stand on Netflix. For a dumb action movie, it was surprisingly good. As with every Schwarzenegger movie, nobody questions why a guy who looks like a body builder and has a thick Austrian accent is, in this case, a sheriff in a small Southwestern town.
Re: Official RedsZone Movie Thread (pt. III)
I haven't seen it but Wolf of Wall Street seems to be turning people off. And DeCaprio and Johah Hill are trying to message the film's message.
I'm a big Scorcese fan but I have no desire to see it.

Me as well, I'm more likely to see American Hustle

Would you question him about it? I would be scared that he would rip me in half. Hypothetically.

I will check it out.
I turned on Jack Reacher out of curiosity, just to watch the first few minutes, and ended up watching the whole thing. I'd put it in the sister category of dumb thriller. I don't want to spoil it but, if you are a bit knowledgable about cult directors, you'll get a kick when they reveal the main bad guy for the first time.
