Re: Sunday 7/5/09 minor league updates
Stubbs CF .282
Griffin, M 3B .242
Heisey LF .346
Barker 1B .245
Rosales SS .402
Dorn RF .253
Valaika 2B .201
Tatum C .231
Maloney P .333
The Bats are facing Ian Snell in game 1.
Sweet stated in an interview with Jim Kelch that Valaika is not projected as a big league SS so they are giving him experience at 2nd and will be playing him at 3rd soon. He said that they see Rosales as a possible big league SS. I can't say I agree with that.
He also said he was lobbying to get Heisey straight out of spring training.

Re: Sunday 7/5/09 minor league updates
Interesting about Rosales. Don't think I agree with that.
-
Re: Sunday 7/5/09 minor league updates
Rosales has played more SS than Hairston ever had before last season.

Re: Sunday 7/5/09 minor league updates
At the bats games today. Get a pretty good look watching these guys face an arm like Snell. Every time I look up during a Stubbs AB he's worked a full count.
-
Re: Sunday 7/5/09 minor league updates
Snell just worked Rosales over.
-
Re: Sunday 7/5/09 minor league updates
Ugly, ugly outing for Sulbaran: 0 IP, 2 H, 6 ER, 4 BB. Started and lifted without recording an out.
-
Re: Sunday 7/5/09 minor league updates
Sulbaran has nasty stuff but he's got a long ways to go in the control department.
-
Re: Sunday 7/5/09 minor league updates
Dragons pitchers issued six walks in the first inning before they recorded an out.
-
Re: Sunday 7/5/09 minor league updates
Anyone know why Matt Maloney was pulled after five innings (66 pitches)?
-
Re: Sunday 7/5/09 minor league updates
Zach Stewart pitched the 6th:
1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

That sounds.... AWESOME.

Re: Sunday 7/5/09 minor league updates
The comeback is on. 13-5 in the second inning.
Fellhauer: 1-for-2 two RBI...first pro hit
Means: 2-for-2 double, SB
Wiley: 1-for-1 HR (#6), walk, 2 RBI

Re: Sunday 7/5/09 minor league updates
Means been turning it up a notch

Stealing when down 11 runs. Sounds like the Reds hired Freel as minor league baserunning instructor.

Never too early to start a comeback.

Re: Sunday 7/5/09 minor league updates
Its possible his steal was before the game was so lopsided (I didn't check) and if so I apoligize, but stealing when more than a few runs down is the best way to short circuit any come back. Why take a chance of getting thrown out when one run means nothing?
Its not surprising, the major league team does stupid stuff like this all the time.

Just a guess, but maybe he is coming to replace Arroyo.

Also possible that he took off because nobody was paying attention. Base stealers are often given props for taking advantage of a situation like that, and it can cause a pitcher to get out of his comfort zone. Especially if the manager or pitching coach is rolling their eyes in the dugout. I agree a straight steal is kind of stupid, but perhaps the pitcher, catcher, and/or fielders were asleep at the wheel.

5 days until arroyo is going to pitch again. I really doubt he was pulled because of that reason.

Guess or wish? To me it's a wish, but with the AS break comming, it may be 2 weeks before Bronson throws again as they will try to give him an unofficial visit to the DL. But to me, he's done, and we are stuck with the contract, either way Maloney should replace him period.

Could be and if so I guess its fine. I watched Jay Bruce stretch a double into a triple today and was clearly out at 3B if the guy holds onto the ball. The Reds were down 8-1 at the time. You have to go back more than 10 years to remember a time when the Reds weren't stupid on the bases. Makes you wonder if its an organizational issue or not.

Maybe they don't want to extend Maloney, maybe he does better with a little more rest. I don't know, just throwing it out there.

Re: Sunday 7/5/09 minor league updates
Dayton has cut the deficit to 13-9 after 4 1/2 innings.
Fellhauer: 2-for-4 double, 2 RBI
Means: 2-for-3 double, HBP, SB
Wiley: 2-for-2 two HR (#6, 7), walk, 5 RBI
Puckett: 1-for-3
Coddington: 1-for-2
Konstanty: 0-for-3
Brown: 2-for-3 double
Rojas: 1-for-2 walk
-
Re: Sunday 7/5/09 minor league updates
Fellhauer, how many games has he played in so far? 3?
-
Re: Sunday 7/5/09 minor league updates
Byron Wiley has been on a tear lately. He made some adjustments after watching Votto and has been on a tear since.

This is his second game. He went 0-for-4 last night.
