Houston Astros Acquire Clint Barmes
They gave up Felipe Paulino for him. It's a good deal for the Rockies because they were probably going to non-tender him anyway. Barmes was told he would mostly play shortstop, which is good news for Astros fans since they have no one capable of providing decent offensive production from the position. Paulino has good stuff, but he's injury prone and really lacking in command. Overall, I'd say it's a good trade for both teams.
Re: Houston Astros Acquire Clint Barmes
Fearless prediction: Barmes will be a two- or three-time All-Star with the Astros as a SS. He'll be allowed to play every day and hit in that bandbox (and others in the NL Central) for a few years.
I wish the Reds would have gotten him.

Why would he have been non-tendered?

He's expensive, not very productive, and somewhat blocked positionally.

More than Clint Barmes, that's for sure.

I thought as a SS, Barmes makes a decent 2nd baseman and good utility infielder. Not sure about everyday SS, offensively and defensively.
