Interesting Winter League Stats
Noticed today that Jaun Fransisco is tearing up the Dominican Winter League.
In 161 ab's he's at .360/.419/.665 with 12 HR's
He could make things very interesting in 2010 with Frazier and Alonzo.
Also Cueto started 1 game and lasted 2.2 innings and gave up 4 hits and 4 ER
Edwin has 8 ab's and 3 hits - all home runs.
Re: Interesting Winter League Stats
Francisco can flat out stroke the ball. We could be in for some potent offense three years from now with what is coming through our system. A contending window is developing--not an imaginary one, but a very real one.
Re: Interesting Winter League Stats
Yes but by then we wont have any pitching unless they develop some.

We don't have any young pitching?

Volquez and Cueto seem to be developing very nicely.
Re: Interesting Winter League Stats
Hate to be Debbie Downer here, but Fransisco still has some holes in his swing if you believe the scouts, and his high K, low BB total.
It is rare for any hitter who K's as much as he does (283 times in the last two years), and walks as little as he does (42 times in the last two years) to develop into a solid major league hitter. In fact the minors are filled with guys who can crush the ball when they make contact, but who rarely do.
Still, he is young enough that he could develop a better eye, and a tighter swing. It would be awesome if he did!
Re: Interesting Winter League Stats
Fransisco has shown improvement w/ his eye every year. The difference between Fransisco and a lot of other guys im the minors that can crush the ball is his excellent defense. Some say he is to big for third but he is above average w/ his glove and has the best arm in the minors. Plus there is only a hand full of minor league players that have his power. Shoot, there is only a few guys in the majors that has his type of power. He is in Dunn and Howard territory and they seem to make it w/ their strikeouts. His walks will eventually get their but his defense makes up for a lot of his flaws.
Re: Interesting Winter League Stats
It wil be interesting to watch his progress this season. Dude does strike out at an ungodly rate. If he learns to get on base look out though. Right now the stat line reeks of Wily Mo Pena though.

Or as I prefer to think of him, Dunn with a good glove and solid work ethic.
(Ducking! It's just a joke people!)
