Only 1 Red in All-Star Game!! The Fans are to blame
I'll probably get slammed for this, but this is just my opinion. I hear people complaining about only having Bronson in the All-Star Game. I agree, in my opinion B. Phillips, Griffey, Coffey, and Ross all had shots at making it. I just don't believe we can blame it all on Garner that they wern't selected. We as fans had the ability to vote them in, and besides Griffey didn't even come close. I know we would have had to hand write in Phillips or Ross, but come on people the ballot had that option. I know people are going to say New York has a bigger market, but with the internet available to vote on that theory goes out the window. I look at this forum and see people from all over the united states, so it's not just up to the people in Great American Ballpark to vote. Since I'm in such a negative mood, I don't understand how a team can be 1 game back in their division and can't sell out a ballgame!! I live in North Carolina so I can't go, but the people in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky don't have no excuse. The fans complain about this team needing to play with purpose etc.., well the fans need to do there part too.
Re: Only 1 Red in All-Star Game!! The Fans are to blame
Who's complaining? I for one, don't care about the ASG.
One guy, two guys...no difference.
Probably saves the team a bonus or two.
Re: Only 1 Red in All-Star Game!! The Fans are to blame
Why can't you go? Are people from NC not allowed in the park? I did not know this.
Re: Only 1 Red in All-Star Game!! The Fans are to blame
I have no problem with just one going since everytime the Reds send someone the have a bad second half of the season or end up hurt the second half. Just seem to be jinked that way for the Reds.
Re: Only 1 Red in All-Star Game!! The Fans are to blame
I'm sure I can go if I had the time to take a 12 hour ride to get there, I use to live in Noblesville, so I know it's only a couple of hours for you. I can't make the 12 hour trip so I've got the extra innings package so I can root my Reds on as much as possible. Believe me, ask my wife, that's about everytime they're on.

Well how much of a fan are you if you're not willing to spend 24 hrs. in the car?
I was just kidding with you. And for the record I have been a 3 times this year, and plan to go several more times. As for the ASG, I would have liked to see more, but I don't think I am going to send any letters to Phil Garner.
Re: Only 1 Red in All-Star Game!! The Fans are to blame
Glad you were kidding, but I agree, sending letters to Phil Garner won't help much, but I would like to see us put a pounding on Houston everytime we play them from here on out, maybe Phillips and Ross can wave at Garner as they round the bases. GO REDS!!!!

Well I hope we kill them, but dont wave at Garner....that will get them beaned, and beaned hard. I would rather have our players without huge knots on them.
Re: Only 1 Red in All-Star Game!! The Fans are to blame
Hey I voted 50 times online for Freel, Griffey and Phillips (darn, forgot to write in Ross too) and ~10 times at the ballpark. I know, it's not enough!! :(
Re: Only 1 Red in All-Star Game!! The Fans are to blame
I'm a little surprised we didn't atleast get one more guy in this year.
Griffey - somewhat deserving but missed a month. And I'm glad he didn't make it. He needs the time off.
Ross - Great first half, but not enough games.
Harang - If Arroyo wasn't here, he may have made it.
Phillips - I really believe he should be on the team. He's batting way over .300, +40 rbis and runs, perfect on stolen bases. What more can a guy do? He's been our catalyst and if he was on the ballot I think he would've been pretty close to making it.
Hopefully, the guys that didn't make will hold a little grudge and it will give them a little extra incentive going into the second half.

uggla was alil nicked up maybe there's still hope for bp
Re: Only 1 Red in All-Star Game!! The Fans are to blame
The All Star game no longer holds the prestige it once had 15-20 yrs ago. It would have been great to have a few more of the guys make it but if I'm managing this team I don't care about the All Star game I care about the playoffs.
Re: Only 1 Red in All-Star Game!! The Fans are to blame
I'm with those who feel that the ASG isn't what it used to be. It used to be a showcase for the best in each league. Now it has grown to be nothing more than an over-hyped dog and pony show for the talking heads to "ooh and ahh" about.
Re: Only 1 Red in All-Star Game!! The Fans are to blame
The three days of the All Star break are the most agonizingly long of the entire season. Players don't seem to care about it anymore, so why should I? Too many modern players don't seem to understand that it is an honor to be selected, and the arrogance of that leaves me cold. While watching this game, I usually find myself wishing the Reds were just playing a regular game on the schedule that night instead. When I was a young, impressionable kid I used to get a thrill from seeing the Reds line up for an All Star game appearance, but now I could care less if the game were not played at all.

I feel the same way. I remember how big a deal the ASG used to be to me, it was almost the high point of the season, now I don't know why.
