GREEN BAY - The man Green Bay Packers fans love to hate no longer represents the star receiver their favorite team so dearly misses.
In a move that had been rumored for months, Javon Walker fired Drew Rosenhaus as his agent, a source within the NFL Players' Association said Monday. Two NFL sources confirmed Walker dismissed Rosenhaus and is without representation.
The NFLPA source said Walker notified the organization Rosenhaus is no longer his agent, but Walker has yet to file an SRA (standard representation agreement) form documenting who his new agent will be.
Attempts to reach Walker, who is out for the season after tearing the ACL in his right knee, were unsuccessful. Rosenhaus did not return a message left on his cell phone. The Packers would not comment on the change.
"I've talked to Javon and out of respect for him will keep that conversation private," Packers vice president of player finance Andrew Brandt said from the NFL fall meetings in Dallas.
Walker hired Rosenhaus last February after catching 89 passes for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2004 and earning his first Pro Bowl berth.
Rosenhaus then went to new Packers general manager Ted Thompson at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis and told Thompson his client wanted a new contract, even though Walker had two years remaining on the $7.485 million rookie deal negotiated by David Ware, his first NFL agent.

I have a feeling that the ruling that TO had against him is really going to set off a rash of Rosenhaus firings.
The NFL, I'm afraid, is looking pretty bleak about 2008 when the new contract between players & teams are up. That whole "guaranteed" contract is going to stall.
The owners know they can "replace" players with no problem. The players know this. Henceforth, the only real leverage the players have is getting signing bonuses.
Ought to be interesting...

Do the players really want guaranteed contracts? I heard a few months ago they don't because that would be the end of those signing bonuses.
