Re: 2008 Reds Draft tracker thread
Early signee Pedro Villarreal (Dallas, TX/Howard Junior College) was drafted in the seventh round as the 206th overall pick by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft last week.
The Howard Junior College standout signed a National Letter of Intent with the Broncs December 10 in the early signing period and was to join the squad in the 2008-09 campaign.
As a freshman, the hurler posted a 2-3 record, to go along with five saves and 27 strikeouts in 30 innings of work. The Hawks finished the season with a 36-20 overall record.
During his prep career at Seagoville High School, Villarreal collected all-district MVP accolades his junior and senior seasons. As a junior, he was voted the best pitcher at the 2005 American Baseball School Winter Classic.
Villarreal signed his professional baseball contract yesterday with the Cincinnati Reds organization.

Fay's blog has a list of 20 signees. I was surprised to see #17 Pfister signed. IIRC he was studying to become a doctor. Maybe I got the wrong draftee?

Ex-Ithaca College players sign pro baseball contracts
By Brandon Thomas • Journal Staff • June 12, 2008
Former Bombers teammate Bryan Gardner won't have the luxury of staying close to friends and family in the Empire State. In fact, he's already gone.
Ithaca College's closer from last season was taken by the Cincinnati Reds in the 34th round of the draft, and the eight days since have been a whirlwind of phone calls and frequent-flier miles.
He signed a seven-year deal with the Reds, leading him to the team's complex in Sarasota, Fla., where he underwent a physical Wednesday.
“I was actually in Virginia when I found out, playing summer ball down there,” said Gardner, a native of the Rochester suburb Fairport. “I flew home Sunday, signed a contract Monday, got ready Tuesday, then flew out (Wednesday).”
Gardner's travels will be a little more strenuous. He will go through a self-described “mini-camp thing” this weekend in Sarasota, then either stay to play for the Gulf Coast League Reds or be reassigned to the Billings (Mont.) Mustangs of the Pioneer League.
Both teams are classified in rookie leagues.
Gardner added that a member of the Reds' scouting staff told him that he will remain in a relief pitcher's role.
“It's been quite a thrill,” Gardner said. “It's a dream to be able to say I'm professional athlete. I don't have to worry about anything except baseball, because that's my job.”

Round 15 was Eric Pfisterer but he's a high schooler out of Don Bosco Prep.
Re: 2008 Reds Draft tracker thread
The big list is updated folks.

Re: 2008 Reds Draft tracker thread
I believe the big list has 15th rdr Eric Pfisterer bolded, it should be 17th rdr, Frank Pfister.

I remember when the Reds rarely drafted a college player. as of today, they've only signed two HS players. what's our record for fewest HS players signed?
Re: 2008 Reds Draft tracker thread
Any word if Pat White is considering signing after football season next year and giving baseball a shot?
Re: 2008 Reds Draft tracker thread
Hal McCoy says Shunick is signed but then again he says Stewart is unsigned but that's not true.
20 draftees signed
The Reds have signed draft picks No. 4 through No. 23 from last Thursday's free agent draft. No. 1 pick Yonder Alonso is playing in the College World Series for the Miami Hurricanes, the Reds didn't have a No. 2 pick and No. 3 Zachary Stewart, a pitcher from Texas Tech, is unsigned.
No. 4 pick Tyler Cline, a high school pitcher from Cartersville, Ga. is signed, as is No. 5, Clayton Shunick, a pitcher from North Carolina State.

Re: 2008 Reds Draft tracker thread
Hal says they've signed 4 through 23? That has to be wrong.
Re: 2008 Reds Draft tracker thread
Of the remaining unsigned picks, the ones I'd like to see signed the most are Yonder Alonso of course, followed by Clayton Shunick, Kyle Day, Daniel Morrison, and Blaine Howell. Howell is supposedly going on a Mormon mission for two years but he's a lefty with good stuff and is worth taking a chance on. Juan Carlos Sulbaran and Matthew Fairel are two others I'd like to see signed but both are probably long shots.
