Who Gets Called First From AAA?
Not sure if this belongs here or in the Minor League Forum, but borrowed from the SunDeck- who gets called up from AAA first?
Can be who it you think it will be or who you think it should be, just explain below.
(Bailey, LeCure and Chapman don't count)
Re: Who Gets Called First From AAA?
I voted last option. I just don't think they are going to bring anyone before the ASB uless there is an injury. I think Jockety will look at things during that time and make some decisions. It really wouldn't surprise me if Mesoraco is first. I think either Hernandez or Hanigan will get traded before the deadline.
Re: Who Gets Called First From AAA?
I vote LeCure
Went with Willis since the Reds need pitching
Re: Who Gets Called First From AAA?
The "we're happy with our options at SS" struck me as your classic "dreaded vote of confidence" for a coach. If you have to answer the question, it's a good sign there's a problem that needs to be addressed soon.
Re: Who Gets Called First From AAA?
If this lackluster baseball continues I see the easiest move being to DFA Renteria and bring up Cozart. I don't see a move in the outfield, yet. I don't think they DFA Gomes so I don't see where an outfielder is going to be called up.

Re: Who Gets Called First From AAA?
Someone on Twitter pointed out that Cozart was out of the Bats lineup today.
I smell an off day call-up tomorrow. Going with Cozie.
Re: Who Gets Called First From AAA?
Cozart's AAA babip is bubbly but he only has tiny shoes to fill.

Lance McCallister was talking about Cozart on the radio yesterday, and he said he was talking to either a scout or someone connected with another team. And that person told Lance that the reluctance to promote Cozart might have to do with Renteria being a Jocketty guy and Cozy being a Krivsky guy. So any replacing Renteria with Cozart is admitting, by Jocketty, that your player isn't the answer.
Lance floated that theory on the air.

Sounds like hoey. The only threat to Jocketty's job is losing, not Wayne Krivsky.

From Lance's Blog
"If you were at AAA what would you think you'd have to be hitting to get called up to this team?"--The Cowboy

I don't buy that for one second. IMO its something to garner an opinion on a talk radio show. Its the conspiracy theory in which you want to illicit strong opinions. Sticking along the same lines why was Leake sent to the minors earlier this season? He was a Jocketty guy who had done something very unique in baseball.

Well releasing Renteria is also admitting that you made a rather large $2.1 million mistake. This franchise can hardly afford to be handing out million-dollar bills like they're escort service fliers on the Las Vegas Strip.
Re: Who Gets Called First From AAA?
A 2.1 Million dollar mistake is fine in my book, as long as it is corrected. I hope that's not the reason for a lack of a move.

For the record, I don't believe it either. But it's not much of a conspiracy. Sounds like a perfectly normal type of ego that exists in all of us, especially general managers. That type of thinking is normal human behavior.
But I doubt that's the reason, personally. I think the Reds are just simply reluctant to admit defeat at the position or they simply aren't ready to trust Cozart enough to release or outright Renteria.
