BJ Szymanski sent to Louisville last night.
That move is a bit suprising. I would have expected others first.
Wow. Sean Cumberland, Sean Henry, and Cody Strait all deserved it before him.
This is definitely a surprise.
Symanski is older than all of them. They way WJ has handled the minor leagues so far, I imagine this is him forcing BJ in to justifying his spot in the organization.
25 years old, .239/.283/.426 with 64 K to just 8 BB in 165 AB in AA. I wouldn't be surprised if he was let go or traded for cash to make room for this year's draft class.
He's probably there to sit on the bench.
He's probably filling the space of the OF that'll come up to take Freel's spot on the roster if/when he goes on the DL.
Hypothetically, what would you say his value is if he could consistently put up a .740 OPS as a solid center fielder in the big leagues? Is it really that unrealistic for him to do that? The guy oozes with talent, and personally, I'm not optimistic about him, but maybe it's not quite time to give up on him.
Lots of players did things in the Majors that they never did in the minors. Szymanski was especially raw when he was drafted, so maybe he needs more time. His minor league OPS is .726, so it's not like I'm talking about a jump from .660 to .760 within a two-year span.
Is he GG material in CF?
