Reds are pursuing 2013 All-Star Game
Reds are pursuing 2013 All-Star Game

Arizona was just awarded the 2011 All-Star Game. The Reds are pushing to get the nexd one available for an NL city. That's in 2013.
“We’re pushing hard on it,” said Karen Forgus, the club’s senior vice-president of baseball operations. “We’re actively pursuing. Bob Castellini is always telling (Commissioner) Bud Selig what a great place Cincinnati is.”
One of the reasons the club so aggressively sought the Civil Rights Game was to show off the city to MLB.
“We want to illustrate how great of a city Cincinnati is,” Forgus said.

They'd have to add an extra air traffic controller over at CVG that night.

My only question, why has it taken so long?
It seems like every new park has already had it.
Re: Reds are pursuing 2013 All-Star Game
I would love to see the All Star game here! :D
Re: Reds are pursuing 2013 All-Star Game
I went when they had it at Riverfront in 1988 and it was one of the more memorable experiences of my childhood. I hope they can bring it back 25 years later.

My guess is they were waiting for the Banks to be done before applying. A giant mudpt doesn't exactly scream All Star Game.

1988 was only 21 years ago. The time we hosted before that was 1970, which was only an 18-year difference. There's 30 MLB teams now, so I certainly don't think it's a case of the Reds getting screwed or anything.

Seems is the key word there...I'd say many new parks are on the waiting list.
Re: Reds are pursuing 2013 All-Star Game
I would say the Twins, Mets, Nats, and possibly Marlins might have something to say about this....not to mention the Royals who are "guaranteed a spot" soon...I think.
I have read also that the Red Sox want it again to celebrate 100 years (2012). My bet is that we will be lucky to have it by 2020.
Re: Reds are pursuing 2013 All-Star Game
I hope they get the All Star Game but I would guess MLB will want All Star games in the new stadiums in New York before they worry about the smaller markets getting the game again.

Well that's too bad. They just had the game in 1999 (?)...

I was there too. It's a great experience and if it does come back to Cincy its a great opportunity for anyone to experience a unique sports event.
Re: Reds are pursuing 2013 All-Star Game
Maybe MLB could go back to playing two All-Star games each year; one in a NL Park and one in an AL park, like they did in the 60's. If they run out of players in the first game, they can just start over in the second game
Just kidding! That was not what the fans wanted to see.
Oh wait! It's Bud Selig! He doesn't care what the fans want to see! :p:

I don't remember the exact process to get tickets back then, but it was something like you had to write the Reds and request a card to fill out and send back in order to be entered into the drawing for tickets. I filled out like 20 cards and thought I would have a good shot at getting tickets.
I thought wrong.
